General Job Description

This is a paraprofessional position responsible for performing work in support of various human resource (HR) programs including employment, training, and special projects. Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the HR Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Reviews employment files to ensure records are maintained in compliance with retention standards.

  2. Provides assistance in the use of applicant tracking, training management, and/or other HR systems and software.

  3. Assists in answering questions regarding university policies and procedures.

  4. Maintains employment databases to include verifying and updating biographical and employment data.

  5. Assists in creating, reviewing, and processing Electronic Personnel Action Forms (EPAFs).

  6. Compiles and prepares reports and documents related to human resource activities.

  7. Assists in coordinating human resource related training, presentations, and events.

  8. Assists in regular data reviews. Verifies, validates, and corrects data as needed.

  9. Coordinates and assists with a variety of special projects as assigned.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

  10. May train and provide work direction to student workers.

  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes and standards related to area of responsibility.

  3. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, policies and procedures related to university personnel actions and required reporting.

  4. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  5. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  6. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

  7. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.

  8. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

  9. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

  10. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  11. Ability to explain policies and procedures to employees and the public.

  12. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  13. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

  14. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.

  15. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience and Training

Four years of experience in human resources or a directly related field is required. Candidates who do not meet the experience requirement but have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred. Experience in Banner HR module is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
