POSITION SUMMARY: Provides consistent leadership of nursing personnel and supports patient focused collaborative care in a shared governance environment. Responsible for coordinating, facilitating and integrating the optimal provision of service on each unit. In conjunction with this, other responsibilities include providing clinical expertise coaching/mentoring of staff and customer service. Assumes

responsibility for the nursing units when Clinical Managers are not present.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

  2. Licensed to practice in the State of Michigan.

  3. Two years' experience as RN Staff Nurse with demonstrated leadership required, preferably work experience concurrently in appropriate specialty area. Ability to meet all behaviors of the RN Staff Nurse Job description.

  4. Ongoing continuing education required with national certification preferred.

CONTINUING EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Position requires RN to be familiar with hospital and department policies and procedures, accepted methods of requisitioning ancillary department service work and familiarity with the medical staff. This knowledge is normally acquired through 1-3 months of orientation time.

  2. Must maintain current nursing knowledge and BLS certification and required CEUs for re- licensure.

  3. Articulates and demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of MHP.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Works in a patient care environment. Includes exposure to conditions, which may be considered particularly disagreeable to sight, touch, sound, smell and tastes.

  2. Is physically and mentally capable of performing position requirements as defined by the nursing process including but not limited to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. This represents approximately 75% of the work time. Physical effort is required in order to transport, move, position and ambulate patients, which accounts for approximately 25% of the work time. Must be able to lift a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted.

  3. Incumbent possesses the skills and abilities necessary to provide direct care to the population served as identified in the description of services maintained on each unit.

  4. The above requirement and working conditions are needed to provide ongoing staff education and mentoring.
