Tidelands Health Trauma Program Manager - Waccamaw Community Hospital (Murrells Inlet, SC) in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Position Summary:

The Trauma Program Manager (TPM) works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) of the Trauma Center to oversee and manage participation in the state trauma system. The TPM has overall responsibility for meeting all local, state, or national Trauma requirements of participation as well as supporting both the Emergency Department Director and TMD in the ongoing review of staff, processes, and outcomes. The TPM will serve as the Injury Prevention Specialist and may also serve as the Trauma Center Registrar.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports and adheres to Hospital’s policies, procedures, philosophy, and mission, applying customer service standards and excellence in attitude and behaviors in performing all job responsibilities.

  2. Works with ED Director to plan for and manage Trauma Center expenses, capital and supply needs, trauma team staffing and training, and development of goals and objectives related to trauma care.

  3. Review financial reimbursement data for trauma care and develop strategies to improve the success of the program, in conjunction with ED physician and administrative leaders.

  4. Serve as a liaison to hospital administration, departments, and staff involved in trauma care to facilitate participation, collaboration, and quality improvement.

  5. Respond to trauma team activations that occur and assist the team in patient care when necessary.

  6. Enter and maintain all required data in the trauma registry system and track all pertinent information including arrival times and activations.

  7. Analyze registry data and implement strategies for performance improvement.

  8. Serve as organizational representative at local, regional, and state trauma-related meetings and events.

  9. Work with Emergency Department EMS Liaison to review and provide feedback on trauma related EMS cases.

  10. Serve as the Injury Prevention Coordinator for the Trauma Center.

  11. Oversee and assist with the Performance Improvement Program for the Trauma Center.

  12. Oversee and assist the TMD with the Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee for the Trauma Center.

  13. Monitor state and regulatory requirements as related to trauma care and develop plans of action for any gaps in participation.

  14. Work to develop Trauma Center protocols and ensure that all trauma policies, procedures, and guidelines are reviewed and revised at a minimum of every three years.

  15. Coordinate preparation for SC DHEC, ACS or other regulatory or certifying bodies prior to site inspection and/or verification visits.

  16. Maintain a professional image by participating in assigned management activities, volunteer organizations, and remaining current in trends and changes in the trauma venue.

  17. Hold membership and participate in regional and/or national trauma organizations.

  18. Works with other staff and designated clinical contacts to develop strategies for securing appropriate referrals for specific clinical services appropriate to the level of trauma designation held at the hospitals.

  19. Develops strategies for the presentation of Trauma and Emergency Medicine oriented education programs throughout the primary and secondary service areas which are compatible with the goals and objectives of the Trauma Center and Emergency Department.

  20. Represent Tidelands Health in a variety of local and regional public forums, to include professional meetings, meetings that address development of the trauma system, and educational programs.

  21. Meet all continuing education requirements.

  22. Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience :

-A minimum of 5-7 years clinical experience in Emergency Department care

-A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a supervisory or leadership roll

-Experience in educational programming and systems development is preferred

Education :

-Bachelors degree in Nursing

Licenses/Certifications :

-Registered Nurse in South Carolina

-Trauma Registry Professional certification required within 18 months of hire

-TCNN and ENPC certification required within 18 months of hire

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :

-Demonstrated successful interpersonal communications and customer service skills

-Computer and database management skills preferred

-Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions

Physical Requirements : Medium Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
