Murray State University Veterinary Pathologist/Assistant Professor in Murray, Kentucky
Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Murray State University is seeking a full-time Veterinary Pathologist/Assistant Professor for its Hopkinsville, KY location.
The Veterinary Pathologist/Assistant Professor’s primary responsibilities include the following:
This position is 85% diagnostic pathology, 10% teaching, and 5% scholarly activity.
Conduct necropsy and histopathologic examinations on mammalian, avian and exotic carcasses. Then choose appropriate ancillary tests and report findings to the submitting client within a timely manner.
Histopathologic examination of formalin fixed samples submitted by referring veterinarians.
Conduct cytodiagnostics by examining, interpreting, and reporting finds on submitted cytologies (aspirates and impression smears), occasional blood smears, and urine sediments.
Conduct rabies testing which includes setting up and interpreting FA tests for potential rabies cases.
Provide consultation and continuing education for veterinarians and livestock farmers.
Support the curriculum of the Veterinary Technology Program as an Assistant Professor.
Attend annual meetings such as the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians or American College of Veterinary Pathologist.
Adherence to the Quality Management System and utilization of LIMS .
Expected to work as a member of a team and leverage the experience of other pathologists for challenging cases.
Good communication skills including both written and oral are necessary to provide clear explanations of results to clients.
Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Candidates must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( DVM ) from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
A minimum of a Masters in Anatomical Pathology/Pathobiology or completion of a residency program from an AVMA / AAVLD / ACLAM accredited program is required.

Minimum Salary: $90,000
Maximum Salary: $100,000
Work Hours:
Up to 5% local travel to present and attend professional meetings.
This position is included in an after-hours rotation to accommodate livestock producers and may require responding on weekends and holidays.
