Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Multiple Locations, United States

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is agile and intellectually curious, who love creating and building things that delight and protect our customers. You will be working with a team of amazing engineers, PMs, and designers, and work closely with other teams across Microsoft to deliver large scale, distributed architectures, and features to meet OneDrive and SharePoint's core service needs.

Responsibilities

You will work in large-scale distributed systems that are critical for customers around the world.  You will design and deliver services that manage internet-scale data stores, enable best-in-the-world file and site browsing and editing performance, or add innovative features to how people manage and interact with their data.  This specific role will work on services that enable deep media experiences for the huge amount of data stored in OneDrive and SharePoint. Video playback, photo processing, and other critical operations are enabled by these services. Everything you do will need to be highly reliable and very fast to enable customers to have outstanding experiences with their data.

As an engineer in our team, you will contribute to and help shape the vibrant, inclusive engineering culture of OneDrive & SharePoint.  You will be expected to do deep, data-driven, collaborative design for additions and changes to our products.  You will write clean, efficient code and comprehensive tests.  You will build coverage with metrics and telemetry to ensure we understand exactly what is happening with our services at all times.  And you will deliver features that will be used by hundreds of millions of customers around the world.

Qualifications

*Required Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years delivering and interacting with REST API’s and web services across multiple systems.   

  • 2+ years with cloud-scale services and server/service management features.  

  • 2+ years of experience with video technologies including but not limited to playback, delivery, or transcoding.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to learn new systems quickly and adapt new methodologies to our service. 

  • Experience with video codecs, playback, and delivery.

  • Experience with building cloud-scale infrastructure components. 

  • Awareness, passion and experience related to cloud scale distributed design and patterns. 

  • Familiar with secure software design concepts. 

  • Proven track record of delivering projects that include multiple components. 

  • Ability and eagerness to work across and partner with multiple engineering teams to achieve business goals.  

  • Experience collaborating with peers and partner teams to meet joint engineering goals.

  • Solid coding, debugging, algorithm design and problem-solving skills.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
