Our team is working on GenAI product - Copilot for Security, and it is at the forefront of innovation in AI. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who can join us in developing and improving upon this product. As the Principal Engineer for Security Copilot’s AI platform team, you will build the frameworks that empower thousands of engineers and across Microsoft Security, our external partners, and customers to build amazing new use cases into and on top of Security Copilot.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of our LLM-based platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and drive the implementation of innovative solutions that are required for Microsoft Security services to deliver copilot experiences.

  • Implement best practices for model evaluation, and deployment in production environments.

  • Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

  • Collaborate with product management to prioritize features and roadmap initiatives based on customer needs and market trends.

  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, software quality, and best practices for software development lifecycle management.

  • Empower thousands of engineers to leverage the extensibility framework through the creation of framework learning and maintenance processes.

  • Develop the material needed to empower others to build on top of Security Copilot Platform.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of professional experience building, running and maintaining highly resilient, distributed cloud services.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • A software engineering background, preferably in large-scale AI platforms, LLM architecture or distributed systems.

  • 6+ years of experience in object-oriented programming, preferably in .NET or Java.

  • 6+ years of experience building distributed systems leveraging technologies like REST APIs, queues, and databases.

  • Expertise in data pipelines or distributed systems.

  • Passion or previous experience developing software involving AI or Machine Learning.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
