Knox ESC School Psychologist - Knox ESC Preschool in Mount Vernon, Ohio

Knox ESC School Psychologist - Knox ESC Preschool Qualifications: Master's Degree, Certification as a School Psychologist in the State of Ohio.

Reports to: ESC Superintendent

Performance Responsibilities: The school psychologist provides individual psychoeducational evaluations to children who have a suspected handicapping condition.

He/she interprets the results to professional staff and parents and serves as part of the placement team considering the appropriate placement in the least restrictive environment. The school psychologist may also be called upon to identify students who are mature enough to enter school early, those who need advanced instruction, and those who would benefit from specialized instruction.

• The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the center.

• Shall serve as a role model for students. The staff member shall be willing to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

• Maintains necessary confidentiality and is trustworthy with confidential data.

• Maintains a high standard of personal and professional ethics.

• Uses correct grammar, word usage, and writing that is professional in nature.

• Is friendly and easy to talk to.

• Keeps appointments and is punctual.

• Assumes responsibility for special projects or tasks.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Establishes and maintains a good system of communication between parents, teachers and administration.

• Represents the county office in a professional manner.

• Creates public awareness and understanding of psychological services by participating in speaking engagements, radio interviews, writing articles etc.

• Provides relevant data for reporting to state and federal agencies.

• Attends relevant meetings relating to special education and child psychology.

• Is familiar with local district policies and mandates regarding evaluation, and placement of handicapped and non-handicapped children.

• Serves as a resource and assists school districts and special education personnel in selecting appropriate educational assessments and curriculum materials to be used in special education.

• Maintains appropriate records on handicapped children.

• Assists in evaluation team conferences, parent conferences, monitoring special education referrals, development of IEP and periodic reviews to assure appropriate special education fprograms for all handicapped children.

• Attends building staff meetings when requested.

• Provides consultation and assistance in interpreting assessment data and to the classroom teacher when providing for the individual needs of students.

• Provides appropriate in-service to districts.

• Aids school staff in providing observations for assessments.

• Counsels individually and in groups with students and/or parents. The counseling shall be accompanied by written procedures which include the intake interview, the structure of counseling, and criteria for selection.

• Adheres to and implements the policies of the Knox County Educational Service Center Governing Board.

• Perform other duties as requested by the Superintendent
