Position Summary:

Under the supervision of ZCS Director, develop and broaden the funding base of the ZCS through endowment-building, fundraising, corporate sponsorships, grant writing, exhibition underwriting, membership drives, foundation giving, capitol campaigns, and all other related activities. Under general direction, identify and conduct in-depth research and implement plans to secure major gift prospects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with writing grants, all correspondence and acknowledgments, and preparing solicitation materials.
  • Assist in the oversight of grants, silent auctions, and sponsorships.
  • Work closely with supervisors, colleagues, ZCS Board, donors, media, and other departments in planning campaign strategies.
  • Utilize research methodology and analysis leading to cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Assist with ZCS marketing and promotional materials including written, website, electronic and imagery.
  • Cultivate cooperative and funding relationships throughout Michigan.
  • Monitor prospective corporate gift programs, foundations, grants, and related postings on the internet.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions; acquire knowledge and keep current with changes in the field.
  • Establish, maintain, and update files, databases, records, and other documents; perform routine analyses and calculations in the processing of data for recurring internal reports.
  • Create effective and successful fundraising "asks" and donor solicitations to meet fundraising goals.
  • Increase the number and dollar contribution level of donors to meet short and long term fundraising goals.
  • Prepare proposals by performing research, meeting with potential donors, corporations and foundations
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Contacts with outside entities and individuals with the purpose of the contacts is to continually cultivate and gather information about potential fiduciary partners and to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to learn about the mission and services of the ZCS.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing or related field.

  • Four years experience in development and fundraising.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and possess strong interpersonal and human relations and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
