Position Summary:

• Recruit and retain high-quality applied string students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; • Pursue scholarly and creative activity that meets CMU standards for tenure and promotion; • Teach courses in string techniques, coach chamber ensembles, string repertoire, and within the field of Commercial Music which could include, but are not limited to, the following disciplines: Music Theory, Composition, Audio/Visual Production and Music Survey courses; • Additional duties may be assigned in accordance with areas of expertise and in consultation with the Director of the School of Music; • Serve on departmental, collegiate, and professional committees.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctorate in violin performance (ABD candidates will be considered if degree completion is assured before duties commence), or commensurate professional experience; • Candidate must possess outstanding performance skills, successful college teaching experience, and be able to teach and collaborate within the field of Commercial Music; • Courses and areas of interest within the Commercial Music specialization could include, but are not limited to: Music Theory, Audio/Video Engineering, Music Composition, Music Production, or survey courses of varying genres, including popular and non-Western musics; • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
