Position Details:

 

Summary of Duties:

 

Develop Extension outreach and applied research programs that inform, educate, and demonstrate successful integration of existing and horizon technologies such as harvest automation, labor assist technologies and others as needed or appropriate in tree fruit orchard operations.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related experience in the program specialty. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Prefer a Masters Degree with three (3) years related experience. Demonstrated teaching experience and evaluating community projects and experience in preparing educational materials for low literacy and diverse populations.

 

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel within targeted counties.

 

• While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.30.020and https://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.29.090).

 

• Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

 

• Employment is contingent upon passing a background screening.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Master's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to horticulture or crop science, with a background in tree fruit production

 

• Experience conducting field evaluations, demonstrations of new practices, technologies, or engineering solutions in perennial specialty crops

 

• Relevant knowledge in agriculture and experience working with commercial tree fruit or perennial crop producers

 

• Demonstrated skills in developing educational content and use of resources across platforms

 

• Ability to collaborate with diverse people, researchers, Extension colleagues, staff, and students

 

• Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance delivery/communication technology, etc.) for day-to-day work and educational program delivery, record keeping, reporting, team-based communications, and overall management

 

• Experience with technologies and components identified important to production agriculture (engineering, computer science)

 

• Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to diverse audiences/communities, and proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members.

 

• Demonstrated skills and professional development from the last five years related to cultural competency and inclusive excellence

 

• Bilingual (English / Spanish)
