Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville seeks a Vice President of Administration and Finance to serve as a member of the institution's senior leadership team and President's Cabinet, and who oversees the financial and accounting operations of the college to ensure it has requisite financial resources including cash management and borrowing agreements. The Vice President of Administration and Finance is responsible for the financial operations and fiscal strategic priorities of SUNY Morrisville.

The Vice President of Administration and Finance reports directly to the President. Their portfolio will include the Business Office (Purchasing, Accounting & Accounts Payable), Facilities Maintenance, Design and Construction, Technology Services, and the Research Foundation.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a key member of the President's Cabinet, working to develop, refine and advance the institution's overall strategic goals.

  • Work as a collaborative leader to establish strategic goals and objectives for the college that support and align as represented in the college's Strategic Plan 2030.

  • Lead the development, implementation and oversight of appropriate fiscal policies and procedures to most effectively produce, monitor and adjust the college's budgets and promote continued stability and growth. This includes the formulation and presentation of operating and capital budgets, as well as compliance with control procedures and audit recommendations for campus functions. Produce, analyze and share various reports, including those that are legally required and those that enable senior leadership planning.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders to acquire information and appropriate legal guidance, especially as it relates to funding and completing capital projects. Outside groups include SUNY System Administration; the State University Construction Fund; Dormitory Authority of New York the State University Business Officers Association (SUBOA); state or local government officials; and various professional organizations.

  • Oversee the implementation of financial directives from SUNY System Administration, the Office of the State Comptroller and other agencies, as appropriate.

  • Serve on the board of the Morrisville Auxiliary Corporation (MAC) as a voting member and on the Morrisville College Foundation board as a non-voting member. Oversee and participate on relevant committees including the Senate Budget Committee.

  • Provide a level of leadership that promotes enthusiasm, confidence and a cooperative attitude among campus community members, as well as a work culture that encourages staff members to appreciate diversity and embrace opportunity in their respective areas.

  • Research ways to improve allocations of funding and personnel; work with other SUNY institutions to share savings and increased efficiencies; and seek out opportunities to improve efficiency and effect cost reductions.

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication on behalf of the Business Office, ensuring that appropriate departments are made aware of campus needs and the campus is informed about relevant activities within the division.

  • Attend important campus functions and other official meetings/events as required.

The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate and support the strategic direction and decisions of the institution at the highest level and be able to identify and allocate the college's resources to most effectively support the achievement of identified goals, objectives and direction of the institution.

  • Ability to understand and evaluate financial information from multiple funding sources with various rules and regulations and be able to provide sound strategic financial forecasting and recommendations to maintain and the financial stability of the institution.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain complex budget information to a wide audience, with a commitment to transparency in the sharing of information.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and to include others in decision-making processes, as warranted.

  • Experience with capital planning, funding and campus master plan.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of shared governance and be able to collaboratively approach decision making with a strong focus on student centeredness.

  • Demonstrate an openness to different viewpoints and communicate in a manner which demonstrates sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds and experiences.

  • Demonstrate high ethical and moral standards.

  • Ability to develop staff and possess flexible interpersonal styles to most effectively interact with and develop others.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • An MBA or Master's degree required; a Bachelor's Degree with additional related certifications or advanced study will be considered.

  • Progressively responsible experience in the areas of business, accounting or financial management.

  • Demonstrated record of collaborative problem solving, planning and implementation experiences at a senior leadership level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or comparable degree or doctorate preferred

  • Demonstrated experience as a successful leader in higher education or a similarly situated complex organization. Experience in finance or business operations preferred. Relevant experiences in facilities management will be considered.

  • SUNY experience highly preferred

  • Experience in a unionized environment

  • Experience with foundations or auxiliary enterprises

  • Demonstrated record of cultural competency and actively engaged in diversity, equity and inclusivity initiatives.
