West Virginia University Assistant Professor of Sport Management - School of Sport Sciences in Morgantown, West Virginia

Description The College of Applied Humans Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for faculty positions in the School of Sport Sciences. These positions are for tenure-track Assistant Professors on the Morgantown campus beginning August 2025. The School of Sport Sciences serves approximately 1,400 students across 13-degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in sport management, sport, exercise, and performance psychology, sport leadership, coaching and performance science, health and well-being, and physical education and kinesiology. The School of Sport Sciences mission focuses on conducting and disseminating high quality research, preparing students to be leaders and innovators in their fields, and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the state and beyond through outreach efforts. We are looking for highly qualified individuals who can contribute to this mission. The nationally and internationally recognized Sport Management program includes an undergraduate bachelor's degree, online master's degree, and on campus master's degree with nearly 600 students across the levels of programming. The School of Sport Sciences aims to expand its academic footprint in the areas of innovative technologies, sport analytics, and emerging markets in sport, including the participatory sport sector. The School of Sport Sciences is seeking applicants to support the continued growth of the Sport Management program. Appointment August 16, 2025. Faculty hired at the Assistant Professor level are a nine-month appointment that are promotable and tenurable. Summer teaching opportunities are available. Responsibilities Candidates will be expected to: Effectively teach online and in-person courses in the sport management bachelor's and/or master's programs. Maintain a systematic line of scholarship that leads to publications in high quality journals. Acquire funding to support research agenda. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Provide service to the sport management program that supports student recruitment, retention, and success. Serve on appropriate school, college and university committees.

Qualifications Professional Qualifications Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree in sport management or a closely related area. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach at the college level (including in-person and online modalities); this evidence can include training or certificates in higher education teaching and/or experience teaching in higher education. Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in several of the following areas: management of sport organizations, sport analytics, human resource management, sport governance, sport marketing and sales, sport sponsorships, sport finance, and related courses. Applicants must demonstrate a clear research agenda, the ability to seek, write, submit, and secure external funding to support their research, and evidence of conducting and publishing high quality research. Candidates must have excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, and lead.
