Overview

The Agency of Education is seeking a Program Technician II to join our Federal & Education Support Programs division. This position will serve the entire division, although approximately half their time will be spent in support of the Child Nutrition Programs Team (the percentage will vary throughout the year).

The FESP Division provides leadership, support and oversight of federally funded educational (\"Title\" programs) and child nutrition services and supports provided in our schools, as well as childcare centers, summer program sites, and others. Our division is responsible for ensuring these programs follow federal and state regulations and that individuals running those programs are well trained so that students receive the best possible support for learning, growth, and development. In addition, our division manages interagency programs, involving educational supports for students in foster care and other interagency programs. This individual will play a vital role within the Division including conducting digital accessibility (DA) checks of documents prior to Web posting and assisting division members with understanding DA requirements, updating information in documents posted on our Webpage, pulling reports from our child nutrition claims management system, and providing general logistical support for the Division, such as preparation of requisitions and translation requests.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, especially Excel, Word, Forms, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and SharePoint
  • Good proofreading skills
  • Ability to apply uniform principles across different content types and situations
  • Basic math and alphabetization skills
  • Good attention to detail when compiling reports and formatting or editing written documents
  • Ability to effectively communicate with agency staff and school personnel

\ The day-to-day tasks will include a wide variety of responsibilities, so the successful candidate also will need to be able to quickly switch between tasks and prioritize support requests while staying organized.

Please note that it is possible to work primarily remotely. However, the individual must be able to come into Montpelier as needed.

Class Definition

Advanced technical and administrative work performed with a high degree of independence. Duties involve administering a complex program or multiple programs; coordinating program activities; including various technical processes; and may involve developing and implementing program requirements such as compliance monitoring or data audits. Requires a broad knowledge of an agency or department and assigned programs. This is the third level in the series and is distinguished from the lower levels by a broader and more complex scope of program responsibilities including a substantial understanding and maintenance of the financial aspects of the program. Incumbents may supervise lower level technical and clerical positions. Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior, but with need for significant interaction with other division or department staff, other state or outside agencies.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed predominately in an office setting. Private means of travel should be available for occasional travel when appropriate. Incumbents must be adaptable and able to work within tight time limits and un der considerable stress. Some evening and weekend duty may be necessary.
