The Arc Montgomery Direct Care Staff in Montgomery, Alabama

Assists residents with day-to-day activities, maintaining a clean, safe, positive, and appropriate homelike atmosphere that allows dignity.

  • Promotes and ensures an environment which enables residents to reach the highest physical, mental, and social potential. Assists and instructs residents with food preparation, laundry, cleaning, personal hygiene, leisure activities, and all other aspects of daily living.
  • Administers medication as prescribed and maintains accurate records of medication administration.
  • Assists with daily dietary requirements, to include following special diets, and weekly weigh-ins.
  • Assists in the initiation and support of follow-through of the daily routines of the group home residents, e.g. supervising the residents in the performance of household maintenance activities, personal routine, hygiene, mobility, communication, economic need, etc., only to the level the residents are unable to perform.
  • Provides the level of support as needed by the resident when in the community, which may include accessing community resources.
  • Engage in residents preferred leisure activity and other scheduled community events.
  • Provides oversight by being available if residents have questions or request assistance. Promotes a safe environment by conducting scheduled fire drills and other emergency procedures (i.e. severe weather drills, etc.) and correct potential safety hazards such as exposed electrical wires, broken glass, etc.
  • Completes medication administration and follow up of other medical orders as prescribed. Reports any medical concerns/illness to the R.N., follows directions given by R.N. Follows procedures for recording information, (i.e. daily log, behavior checklists, accident/incident reports, progress notes, task analysis, medication charts, petty cash expenditures, vehicle inspection checklists, visitor/telephone log, seizure reports as needed, etc.)
  • Notifies appropriate person/people (i.e. on-call supervisor, R.N., Behaviorist, Coordinator) when necessary (i.e. medical emergency, change to weekend agenda, behavioral incidents, medication errors, client injury, etc.).

**Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities : Ability to relate to people in a positive manner. Ability to interact with ARC's group home residents in a positive manner with respect. Ability to focus on training the group home residents to be as independent as possible. Ability to effectively manage time and material resources. Ability to be flexible in responding to work demands and schedule as needed. Ability to consistently prepare reports in a clear, accurate, and professional manner. Ability to consistently and positively support and enforce ARC policy and procedures. Ability to attend training/in-service meetings during non-regular hours.

**Qualifications : High school diploma, or GED and Six months experience required. Background check and drug screen (required). Possession of valid Alabama driver's license, an acceptable driving record as verified by a Motor Vehicles Records check.
