Role Definition

Design, development and testing of electrical and/or electronic components for use within machines and engine systems.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing compliance with development processes and regulations for electrical and electronic systems and components.

• Investigating and troubleshooting all technical issues related to electrical and electronic systems and components.

• Managing and negotiating with electrical and electronic equipment vendors for the development of systems and components.

• Mentoring craftsmen, technicians and engineers in the development of electrical and electronic systems and components.

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Degree Requirement

Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering.

Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

  • Follows procedures in carrying out routine supplier management tasks.

  • Uses electronic systems or tools to record/retrieve supplier information and carry out transactions with suppliers.

  • Resolves routine supplier issues; escalates non-routine issues up chain of command.

  • Researches alternative vendors or suppliers; participates in supplier selection.

  • Works with suppliers to ensure that purchases meet delivery date and quality specifications

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques in English; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient.

  • Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.

  • Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.

  • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate.

  • Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

  • Under guidance, plans and estimates simple projects.

  • Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.

  • Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.

  • Produces standard project status reports.

Electronics Engineering - HTH: Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to design, test and manufacture electronic circuits, components and devices.

  • Researches considerations and tools used for converting schematics tolayouts.

  • Works with engineering electronic components or devices.

  • Constructs circuit schematics; explains the interconnections between all electrical components.

  • Addresses common issues and considerations in manufacturing electronic products.

  • Implements processes and activities associated with the design and testing of electronic circuits.

Basic Qualifications:

1 to 3 years of experience working in the capacity of an electrical or mechanical design engineer to help us develop low voltage DC electrical components for use on Caterpillar engines and machines.

Work experience in similar fields: factory quality, process, research, validation or similar.

Successful candidates for this role have experience in design, validation, project management, electronics, and other technical areas.
