ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Operate GFM forging machine and associated equipment to convert ingots, billets and other products of alloys, titanium, or other materials to specified size and shape. High emphasis placed on proper sequence of equipment operations, utilizing automatic and manual controls

  • Direct and check the work of the charger crane operator to ensure that the proper material is being forged or loaded

  • Work from schedules, mill orders, written and verbal instructions to set up and forge material in the desired manner. Maintain log, records and other paperwork required

  • Exercise judgment in maintaining proper parameters such as temperature and amount of reduction of the particular material being worked on. Participate in changing dies as necessary to suit operations and perform maintenance duties as directed. Direct and check the work of the assistant operator and other department personnel and maintain an orderly flow of work through the department

  • Detect and report any improper operations, defective material, or unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Perform other duties as required or directed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • General high school diploma or GED

  • Use advanced mathematics including metric system and complex specifications to program electrical process control computer.

  • Requires use of optical pyrometer, gauges, controls, precise measuring instruments requiring interpretation.

  • General knowledge of working properties of metal, basic metallurgy, and process control computers, equivalent to an accredited apprenticeship.

  • Experience should be over 1 year up to 2 years.
