ATI is currently seeking a Chemistry Lab Technician for our lab department at our Bakers location in Monroe, NC. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of chemical and physical testing procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of materials used in the manufacturing process. This includes sample preparation, equipment operation, data recording, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Qualified candidates must be self-motivated, able to work as a team, understand and follow work instructions, multi-task, and show attention to detail.

This is a night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, then have 3 days off. Training will take place on day shift from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on the same rotating schedule.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis using methods such as cutting, grinding, drilling, and polishing

  • Perform routine chemical analysis using instruments like the Leco Oxygen/Nitrogen, Leco Carbon/Sulfur, Panalytical XRF, ARL Optical Emission Spectrometer Polish the sample by removing deep scratches as well as in-process analysis for VIM operations, including sample preparation.

  • Perform various mechanical powder testing, such as Ro-Tap sieve analysis, Microtrac particle size distribution analysis, and density tests

  • Perform a variety of duties to generate high-quality testing data for certification. These duties may include but are not limited to sample preparation, following written procedures, testing, validating, and reporting test results, and recording data into the laboratory information management system (LIMS)

  • Calibrate and perform maintenance on testing equipment to ensure proper operation

  • Minimal travel between plant locations required as needed

OPERATE ABRASIVE SAWS TO CUT A VARIETY OF TEST SAMPLES ACCORDING TO DRAWINGS AND STANDARD PLANS; SET-UP AND OPERATE LATHE, CYLINDRICAL AND SURFACE GRINDERS, MILLING MACHINE, BROADER, DRILL PRESS AND OTHER MACHINE TOOLS

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of laboratory experience or a Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of laboratory experience

  • One (1) year manufacturing experience

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
