ATI is currently looking for a Charger Crane Operator for the Press department at our Monroe, NC facility. This position is responsible for operating a large Charger Crane to handle heavy loads of hot metal material withing the forging production process by gripping and lifting metal from furnaces and transporting it to presses for forging using the cranes rotating capacity.
This is a 6pm to 6am shift, working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, the have 3 days off. Initial training will take place on first shift, 6am to 6pm on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule.
Additional Responsibilities:
Operate charging machine to load and unload press furnaces and to transport material around the press facility. Operate the charger to forge material in conjunction with the press operator when working material whole. Operate the charger to transport other materials such as maintenance items using cables, slings or chains. Assist in the performance of setup and maintenance duties
Work from charts, maps, written or oral instructions to load and unload furnaces in the prescribed manner. Upon signal from the press operator, remove heated material from furnaces and make it available to the truck manipulator in the shortest amount of time possible. Remove cut pieces from die and recharge into furnaces or transport to designated area
Exercise extreme care while operating charger to avoid ramming, scraping, or dropping and to ensure the safety of others Exercise care in loading and unloading furnace to avoid mixing of material identity. Add the press operator and the furnace operators to maintain identity of material in the press area.
Detect and report defective materials, improper operations, or unusual conditions to proper supervision. Follow all prescribed safety regulations
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience operating heavy equipment or manufacturing environment a plus
Skills
Understanding of farm equipment or large machinery a plus
Ability to climb 10 feet to access crane operator cabin
Comfort working in an enclosed environment with heat/AC
Strong communication, time management and attention to detail skills
Required to pass IME screening
Able to read, write, use ordinary arithmetic including decimals and fractions. Use simple charts and diagrams.
Average physical effort required to operate charger and perform other duties
