ProMedica Health System Patient Care Supervisor - Cath Lab - Full Time - Days in Monroe, Michigan

Through role modeling, coaching and facilitation, coordinates high quality, effective patient care, while assisting staff to maintain clinical practice, professional, and critical thinking behaviors.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise

  1. Provides nursing care

a. Assesses unit activity needs and concerns by making rounds at least once per shift and through discussions with staff, physicians, patients, and families.

b. Identifies appropriate care givers when making assignments. Utilizes the patient acuity information.

c. Assists in assessing the delivery of nursing care, ensuring current/potential problems are identified and appropriate action is taken in accordance with age specific, life cycle and developmental needs.

d. Assesses number and skill level of personnel needed to deliver patient care on each shift and adjusts staffing in collaboration with the director and staffing office.

e. Assesses special needs of patient and families and assists staff in securing appropriate resources, including discharge planning needs.

f. Achieves and maintaining HCAHPS and all publicly reported data related to patient satisfaction.

g. Responsible for A+ rounding with patients and families to assure attention to any satisfaction or care concerns.

  1. Implements highest nursing practice standards

a. Assists staff in maintaining nursing practice standards as defined by the nursing division and the individual unit.

b. Acts as clinical resource to staff in technical, clinical, and professional matters.

c. Assists staff in maintaining a calm, reassuring, therapeutic environment for patients and families.

d. Assists staff in complying with policies and procedures and is familiar with unit and hospital policy and procedures.

e. Provides direct patient care as appropriate based on unit and staff.

  1. Evaluates compliance

a. Assesses patient/family response to care and assists staff in adjusting plan of care, as necessary.

b. Assists in assessing the clinical skills & knowledge of staff and communicating assessment to the director for appropriate action.

c. Continually evaluates compliance with standards of care, policies, and procedures.

d. Participates in current/retrospective evaluations of patient care in conjunction with quality improvement programs, utilizing results to improve patient care.

e. Assists in reviewing, revising, and developing policies and procedures for the unit.

  1. Collaboration with leadership

a. Collaborates with director, clinical manager, and Staff Development department to develop highly competent, effective, accountable, professional staff members.

b. Assists in identifying learning needs of staff.

c. Assists in orientation of new employees by acting as resource or preceptor.

d. Supports development, delivery of education programs for staff members.

e. Through coaching, and facilitation, assists staff nurses in developing professional practice skills necessary to assume greater accountability for continuity and quality care.

f. Provides feedback to Clinical Manager and Staff Development regarding in-service and orientation program.

  1. Professional development

a. Assumes responsibility and accountability for personal and professional development.

b. Attends appropriate continuing education and staff development programs, utilizing new knowledge to improve performance and care.

c. Reviews current nursing and professional literature and incorporate new knowledge in practice.

d. Participates in professional organizations as appropriate.

e. Demonstrates/role models effective problem-solving skills in operational, clinical, and customer relations issues within clinical area, at staff meetings, and as a committee member.

f. Develops a performance plan with goals and objectives on an annual basis and evaluates own performance periodically with director.

g. Initiate and/or participate in data collection and assist in analysis of research data & incorporate research results into nursing practice when appropriate.

  1. Prioritizes patient care.

a. Assists staff in planning/prioritizing patient care.

b. Plans and conducts multidisciplinary patient care conferences as necessary, for those patients and families with complex inpatient needs.

c. Serves as a liaison with physicians, other departments.

d. Assists in assuring effective learning experiences for affiliating students.

e. Assists staff in problem solving.

f. Assist staff and case manager in developing discharge plans.

  1. Other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate of accredited BSN program, OR actively enrolled in an accredited BSN program.

Skills: Must have interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel as needed to promote quality patient care.

License: License to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Michigan

Certification: BLS and ACLS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing with Bachelor of Science in Nursing

• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to coordinate care for identified population.

• Demonstrated flexibility and creatively in work environment is desirable.

Certification: Specialty area certification or willing to obtain in 1-3 years
