Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience or training in clerical work.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Function of Work:
To perform a wide variety of clerical duties that requires independent judgment to accomplish in support of the staff members and/or operations of an organizational unit or program.
Some discretion is required in the performance of these duties. Duties begin to expand in scope and complexity, and develop into departmental-program duties.
Level of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
General from higher-level clerical and/or supervisory personnel.
Supervision Exercised:
May supervise 1-2 lower-level personnel.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Administrative Coordinator 2 by the presence of responsibility for clerical duties that involve greater scope and complexity, including initial program duties.
Differs from Administrative Coordinator 4 by the absence of paraprofessional duties that involve a higher degree of specialization, complexity, and/or independent judgment.
Examples of Work
include administrative support functions, as well as clerical duties associated with the delivery of personal health services. Incumbent assists with orientation and training of clerical staff throughout the region to ensure program guidelines and standards are maintained. The duties and percentages will vary because of the nature of the position from region to region and from health unit to health unit. Although the position does not have permanent supervisory responsibilities, the incumbent may, during any given assignment, have supervisory responsibilities.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Travels around the region to perform the following duties in a parish health unit or regional office in the absence of any clerical incumbent or to supplement clerical staff in heavily scheduled clinics.
Registers and interviews patients, inputs required data into various systems. Solicits income information and determines eligibility for various programs including, but not limited to, WIC, Immunizations, TB, STD, Family Planning, etc.
Issues WIC food benefits using automated system following established program guidelines and instructions.
Update patient demographics, insurance, confidentiality, etc in the electronic health record program, LaWin, LINKS, LIMS, and any other programs necessary for clinic. Updates patient records with lab results, clinic notes, etc.
Determines and collects appropriate fees for services provided following agency policies and procedures.
Assists patients who may be Medicaid eligible and completes presumptive eligibility forms and forwards to programs.
Answers and routes incoming calls. Greets visitors/patients and directs to requested service.
When needed, performs clerical duties associated with Environmental health programs in the public health unit.
Assists with record purging, record audits and CQI requirements to ensure program guidelines and standards are maintained.
Works where assigned when region is operating Medical Special Needs Shelter during hurricane evacuation of south Louisiana; works shelters in other regions as part of a strike team when assigned during a declared public health emergency.
Other duties as assigned.
