Walton County Board of Commissioners HVAC Technician in Monroe, Georgia

DEPARTMENT: Facilities / Risk Management

ENTRY SALARY: $22.06 per hour, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY: This position participates in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems in county buildings. Diagnose, identify and repair potential problems and keep systems clean and running at normal levels and capacity. Maintain and repair all HVAC equipment and components to manufacturers recommendations. Changes or adds chemicals to chiller systems in order to prevent damage to chiller and water lines. Install, service, repair and replace refrigeration systems including split systems, chillers, packaged units, heat pumps, etc. Maintain, monitor, repair, conduct routine preventive maintenance and non-scheduled maintenance of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment including, but limited to, replacing mechanical seals, re-packing pumps and valves, replacing bearings and bets, checking for proper alignment, repairing fan coil units, brazing and soldering, calibrating controls, working on pressure vessels, replacing piping and fittings. Develop heating, ventilating and air conditioning system modification plans and estimates jobs for remodel activities. Interprets as-built building blueprints and recommends system modifications for remodel projects in accordance with applicable regulations. Create preventative maintenance checklists for new equipment. Research and select materials for HVAC system installation, repair and maintenance. Operate equipment management controls and be able to start, stop, seek status or change conditions on HVAC systems. Manage radio tower specialized HVAC equipment and be able to repair potential problems to prevent emergency operations equipment from failing. Coordinates with other departments to schedule, plan and execute repairs. Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promote workplace safety and environmental practices. Train other employees in HVAC preventative maintenance, repair and care of HVAC systems. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an HVAC apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position such as lead mechanic, service technician or service supervisor, or residential supervisory experience for one to three years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain the following licenses: State of Georgia Conditioned Air license, EPA Section 608 Technician Certification license, and Board approved Heat Loss and Gain and Duct design. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
