Harbor Wholesale Human Resource Specialist - Part Time in Modesto, California

The purpose of the Human Resources Generalist is to maintain compliance with many different entities. This position is the first point of contact for most of the company onsite or by other means, and an infallible level of discretion and confidentiality is mandatory. This position will maintain records, electronically and physically regarding a variety of programs dealing with company benefits, leave of absences, unemployment, worker's compensation, and more. The Harbor HR Generalist is a broad-based position requiring flexibility and adaptability to a wide variety of initiatives, process, locations, departments, senior leadership, managers, and all staff.

Schedule: 25-29 hrs per week with flexible schedule Monday-Friday Compensation: $23-28/hr  This position has potential for FT in the future.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for building new hire files, DOT qualification files, and onboarding packets
  • Responsible for administering leave of absence (LOA) requests in across multiple states (predominately CA and NV)
  • Responsible for filing documents into employee files.
  • Administers pre-employment and random tests; coordinates with testing agencies and inbound data collection.
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of our HRIS to include, new hires, terms, department changes, pay changes, and job changes.
  • Responsible for preparing payroll change sheets to include new hires, terms, and employees on LOA.
  • Resolves employee inquiries related to health & welfare plans, referring difficult or complex complaints to the director.
  • Completes past employment verifications.
  • Reports all workers comp claims and documents on OSHA log.
  • Responsible for new hire files and term files.
  • Responsible for new hire orientation and presentation of company materials to new hire classes.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings & attends other meetings & seminars as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by director may include one-time HR projects for media, events, and/or community and/or team member involvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of employment law, state and federal, is essential to this position. Substantial emphasis on ADA and FLMA/CFRA statues and process, as well as additional designations within workplace employment laws and policies.
  • Strong skills in using Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook, and other Microsoft suite programs required.
  • Ability to file, possesses organizational skills, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to make presentations to small groups.
  • Ability to counsel employees and management on a variety of subjects including company policy, benefits, and help employees with other issues which may affect their work life.
  • Ability to be confidential because of the information this position is exposed to.
  • Ability to work well with other employees to foster a respectful and professional work environment.

Education and Experience:

  • BA in Human Resources, Business; A.A. accepted with relevant field of study or experience equivalent to this education.
  • Minimum 2+ years years related Human Resource experience as a Generalist or senior level HR Assistant.
  • Stable, consistent employment record.
