Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabamas Grounds department is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Performs routine maintenance of grounds to include:
- Trimming and fertilizing trees and shrubbery.
- Mowing and edging lawns.
- Picking up trash and debris.
- Watering plants.
- Hoeing, weeding and tending flower beds, gardens, and lawns.
- Collecting, loading and hauling trash.
- Operating a tractor, and other various groundskeeping equipment and vehicles which may be equipped with manual transmissions.
- Digging and planting flowers, shrubs and trees; performing groundskeeping and custodial duties in maintaining a small group of buildings and grounds.
- Installing weed fabrics and mulches.
- Staking and guying trees.
- Removing debris and trimming along edges of bodies of water.
- Cleaning trash and debris from storm inlets.
- May apply chemicals to lawn, trees, shrubs, flowers, and paved surfaces.
- Collecting campus-wide solid waste to include pick-up of bagged, boxed and loose materials and transporting by truck to dumpsters located throughout campus for unloading.
- Moving materials and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.
- Assisting in preparing grounds for installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Operating a power washer to clean sidewalks and other paved surfaces.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as required.
