SALARY:  $16.50/HRDEPARTMENT:  Ground HandlingSCHEDULING/HOURS OF WORK: Seasonal, Part TimeCLOSING DATE: June 5, 2024The Missoula County Airport Authority owns and operates the Missoula Montana Airport (MSO).  Missoula Montana Airport serves the western area of Montana, with a population of approximately 175,256.  Commercial passenger services are provided by Alaska, American, United, Delta, Allegiant, Frontier, and Sun Country Airlines.  The Airport has direct service to Dallas, Portland, Las Vegas, Phoenix/Mesa, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Denver and Minneapolis with nonstop departures and seasonal service to Chicago, Los Angeles, Oakland, Atlanta, and San Francisco.  The airport has an estimated 50/50 mix of business and leisure travelers. Missoula is located at the confluence of three rivers and the convergence of 5 mountain ranges in the heart of Western Montana.  It is home to the University of Montana and Missoula College, which provide diverse cultural opportunities, including fine arts, theater, dance, and NCAA Division athletics.  Missoula is one of Outside Magazine's "Best River Towns in America" and America's Promise Alliance's "100 Best Communities for Young People."JOB SUMMARY:  Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, enforces airport regulations related to parking, traffic control, commercial operations, and security; interacts with the public in regard to enforcement issues and general information requests. Prioritize customer service and assistance to the traveling public at the Missoula Montana Airport. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (The following are intended to illustrate typical duties; they are not meant to be all inclusive or restrictive.)Monitors and observes airport terminal curb, commercial lane and parking areas on foot; issues warnings and citations for violations of airport regulations.Advises drivers to move vehicles as appropriate to ensure timely flow of traffic through the airport.Assists passengers with locating available parking to maximize parking capacity and improve passenger experience.Maintains a safe and efficient operating environment for vehicles and pedestrians; communication of snow/ice accumulation, pickup of lost/left items, etc.Provides information to the public on laws, regulations and ordinances affecting parking; provides general assistance to all with emphasis on customer service.Observes and proposes the need for work orders to maintain signage, curb painting and maintenance to promote effective communication of policies and regulations.Validation of commercial vehicles to ensure proper permit status.Serves as an ambassador that represents the Missoula Montana Airport in a professional, positive, friendly and courteous manner.Assists passengers with special needs. Supports and assists general airport terminal operations and services. Communicate passenger concerns, comments, and observations to the Deputy Director or his designee.Comply with all airport safety and security procedures. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Works under the general direction of the Deputy Director.SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:  Work environment is dictated by the activities of the airport, duties will occur both indoors and outdoors, under adverse weather conditions. The work requires the ability to walk over rough, uneven terrain. Extended periods in emergency conditions. The position may intermittently be subject to stress as a result of critical time schedules, human behavior, and emergency conditions.Position is subject to extended hours of standing and walking on a daily basis.Requires occasional heavy lifting, up to 70 pounds. Requires standing, climbing, walking, reaching, stooping, crouching, kneeling and crawling. Work environment noise level is frequently loud. Requires hearing which falls within normal limits for both pure tone and speech, per audiogram.May be exposed to toxic chemicals, noxious odors and vibrations due to the nature of the job. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must gain a functional understanding of the MCAA policies, procedures and processes, and knowledge of airport operations, policies and procedures. SKILLS: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to propose solutions and coordinate responses to operational/logistical challenges.  Strong interpersonal skills and outgoing demeanor; exercise proper judgement, tact and diplomacy in interacting with people. Effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms. Must have strong organizational skills, written, and verbal communication skills.ABILITIES:  Clearly, accurately, and in a professional manner communicate airport policies and regulations to the public, including hostile and irate citizens. Enforce rules and regulations fairly and impartially. Comfortable and assertive when dealing with large groups of people. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all MCAA employees, airport tenants, and the traveling public. Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Bilingual is beneficial but not required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION:  High school diploma or GED preferred.EXPERIENCE:  Experience in parking enforcement, law enforcement, security or a related field is preferred.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must complete a criminal history records check conducted by the FBI through the fingerprinting process and a successful security threat assessment conducted by TSA.
