Tasks of Position

The following are core and essential responsibilities of this position. Associates are responsible for completing any and all duties assigned as required for the successful operation of our business. All associates are required to perform their job duties in a manner which upholds the integrity and honesty of our company.

  • Reporting for assigned shifts on time, and on a regular basis, capable of communicating clearly and demonstrating suitable physical abilities to safely perform assigned tasks and duties, prepared to provide excellent service and leadership.
  • Promoting sales through active discussions with guests, offering product recommendations, and discussing current promotions and service information. (Examples may include while in the check stand: asking guests if they need stamps or ice, chatting about Yoke's signature items, fresh board and sweet deal suggestions, or providing information on reusable bag rebates).
  • Performing all work with regard to the laws, policies, and confidentiality regulations of the company, and in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines. Advising Store Manager or appropriate personnel of any discrepancies.
  • Practicing Food Safety - Active Managerial Control for all food handling departments by being proactive at finding and preventing food safety risks, ensuring that all food handling Department Manager, Assistant Department Managers, and Leads are properly trained and are actively training associates on food safety practices. These practices include knowing personal health and illness symptoms to report to the management, monitoring food temperatures with thermometers, proper hand washing when required, using tongs or other barriers with ready-to-eat food, cooking meat to proper temperatures, washing produce before cutting, and preventing cross contamination. Active Managerial Control requires management to assure Associates follow food safety requirements by checking their work and providing corrective action as needed.
  • Ordering ad items and month long savings guide items.
  • Guiding front-end and perimeter department operations by supervising and working as a cashier in the front-end, ensuring service levels.
  • Identifying and supporting the development of associates who show promise or interest in increased responsibility.
  • Coordinating grocery department merchandising and stocking needs on an ongoing basis. Maintaining high standards of merchandising and stocking.
  • Answering guest complaints or inquiries.
  • Securing the store and performing as Store Manager in the absence of him or her or the Assistant Store Manager.
  • Ensuring compliance of associates with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
  • Empowering associates to use "This One's On Us" cards to "Make Our Guests Crazy About Us!"
  • Assisting in grocery paperwork, merchandising, stocking, ordering, inventory preparation, and overall store cash management procedures.
  • Participating actively in the store's accident reduction plan including: monitoring store slip/trip hazards, cleaning or assigning clean up of spills immediately, and recognizing: safety features of all machinery, personal protective equipment, store evacuation plan, robbery policy, health codes for bleach, case temperatures, gloves, ice scoop, sink regulations, and storing regulations.
  • Leading accident reduction program by managing in-store safety committee, including safety related training and compliance, and conducting monthly safety meetings. Ensuring all work performed is complete in accordance with all local, state, federal, and company regulations and policies regarding workplace and guest safety.

This position's supervisory responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Assisting in managing associates throughout the store in the absence of the Store and Assistant Manager, and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the store.
  • Performing supervisory responsibilities in accordance with our company's policies and applicable laws.
  • Training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Displaying excellent leadership and communication skills when addressing associate matters, and continually building and improving on the same.
  • Understanding and implementing company policies and enforcing them.
  • Ensuring all associates within store are trained in safety and remain compliant with state safety requirements.


Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED; or a minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Language Skills

Reads, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, guests, and the general public. Communicates effectively and pleasantly with all guests, vendors, and associates, under all circumstances.

  • Mathematical Skills

Performs mathematical skills in order to manage a profitable operation including concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Performs mathematical skills using units of American money and weight measurement, volume.


  • Reasoning Ability

Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions in written or oral form. Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

  • Other Qualifications

Must be at minimum 21-years-old.

Physical Demands & Safety Expectations

Most positions within Yoke's require physical effort to varying degrees. As such, associates are expected to be mindful of practicing Yoke's safety standards at all times. This may include using personal protective equipment when and where required, understanding ergonomic safety, chemical hazards, safe lifting techniques, lockout/tag out procedures, and emergency protocol. All associates are required to report accidents within 24 hours.
