Overview

The role of Warehouse Technology Director offers a unique opportunity to spearhead innovation and integrate cutting-edge technology within an industry-leading alcohol distribution company. As a critical link between distribution operations and technology, this position ensures seamless transitions to new technologies and fosters effective communication among all business stakeholders. The Warehouse Technology Director will design, coordinate, and lead IT-related activities across all distribution centers, providing guidance and support to the warehouse operations IT team. This role is vital in ensuring effective and stable operations in the company's 24/7 environment by establishing and monitoring controls across IT infrastructure and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) applications. Additionally, the Director will develop and implement IT policies and procedures that align with the corporate IT strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain Manhattan’s warehouse management systems to ensure optimal functionality and performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize systems and ensure they meet organizational needs.

  • Identify and recommend technology solutions that align with the strategic goals of Supply Chain & Operations.

  • Design solutions with an Architecture-first mindset to ensure standardization of solutions.

  • Engage with internal stakeholders and external partners to recommend and implement solutions for business problems in distribution centers.

  • Support implementation and support of Robotics and other emerging technologies projects.

  • Set up dedicated product teams to support agile processes and ensure rapid delivery of solutions.

  • Partner with relevant teams to develop plans that enhance processes, improve efficiency, and elevate the end-to-end customer experience.

  • Advise senior leadership on the latest technologies in warehousing and logistics, demonstrating expertise and strategic insight.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of functional partner needs and strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with IT initiatives.

  • Mentor, develop, motivate, and coach teams to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

  • Advocate for the needs of the Supply Chain department, ensuring their requirements are met through effective technology solutions.

  • Manage and respond to business-partner feedback to drive continuous improvement in IT services and solutions.

  • Stay updated on technological changes, trends, and innovations in the industry.

  • Communicate warehouse IT topics, including decisions, status, timing, and strategies, across functional and business teams.

  • Participate in industry peer groups to stay informed about trends and best practices, and implement relevant solutions within the organization.

  • Be open to learning new technologies and products to enhance warehouse operations at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working with warehousing and distribution center applications and systems.

  • Minimum of 5 years leading IT support teams, both local and remote.

  • Experience with implementing and supporting Manhattan WMS.

  • Strong background in warehouse processes is essential.

  • Experience working in an integration environment with SAP and other warehouse technologies.

  • Experience with material handling and conveyor belt systems.

  • Familiarity with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASR).

  • Bonus- Robotic

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level knowledge of WMS systems and processes.

  • Knowledge of additional supply chain areas, including Labor Management and Yard Management, is advantageous.

  • Experience with custom-built products for supply chain is a plus.

Skills

  • Ability to blend technical expertise with a strong understanding of business needs and strategic thinking.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with peers, management, contractors, and vendors.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and issue resolution.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments

Leadership

  • Proven experience in managing distributed teams and coordinating with vendors.

  • Ability to mentor, motivate, and lead teams to achieve high performance and collaboration.

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or mobile device

  • Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping

  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
