Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10, OVERHIRE (NTE 2 years from date of hire) Hourly Range: $40.73 - $47.53 Work location: 5 CES - Minot AFB, ND

The primary purpose of this position is: To perform maintenance, repair, replacement, and minor construction for base wide facilities within the boundaries of CEOIU. To include but not limited to, Fire Suppression Systems, two swimming pools, 36 lagoons, 12 water wells, 18 dewatering lift stations, three septic systems, 15 Missile Alert Facilities (MAF), and 150 Launch Facilities (LF) all within a 90-mile radius of base.

Duties:

  1. Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment.
  2. Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures for water, fire suppression, and drainage systems according to specifications and facility plumbing and life safety codes.
  3. Troubleshoots problems involving water, fire suppression, wells and controls.
  4. Operates and maintains vehicles, shop equipment and a variety of hand and power tools.
  5. Utilizes safe working practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Recruitment Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  1. Knowledge of utility distribution, storage, and collection system installation/isolation/repair, and of the physical properties and hazards associated with the various systems encountered. Skills include routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems and technical practices required to plan, lay-out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair various systems and equipment.
  2. Knowledge and ability to use and work with test equipment and measuring devices such as multimeters, chlorometer, total dissolved solids meter, volt meters, and drawing programs.
  3. Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of dry-pipe, wet-pipe, aqueous film-forming foam and high-expansion foam fire suppression systems for aircraft hangars and other specialized facilities. Includes knowledge of isolating system components via valves or safety switches to perform testing, maintenance, repair, and knowledge of emergency shut-off procedures to prevent accidental discharge of fire suppression systems.
  4. Knowledge of safety and work regulations, practices, and procedures, particularly those applicable to Uniform Facilities Criteria (UFC), Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH), Occupational and Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) protocol and regulations and any other that apply to fire suppression systems, asbestos, Lockout Tag Out, fall protection and confined space entry.
  5. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic procedures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and components of industrial facilities and equipment.
  6. Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing industrial facility plumbing water supply and wastewater disposal systems and equipment without more than normal supervision.
  7. Skill in techniques used to measure, cut, thread, and join pipe and fittings.
  8. Ability to test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and electronic equipment.
