Vail Resorts Director Community Affairs Business Partner - East & West in Minnesota

The Director, Community Affairs Business Partner (CABP) position is responsible for developing Community Affairs strategy and ensuring integrated execution across the Public Affairs operating model to drive growth and profitability at Vail Resorts. This role will focus on collaborating with resort leadership to deliver the business strategy, utilizing external insights and organization data to drive business outcomes, that solve for local or regional priorities in an enterprise-wide, scalable manner. This position formulates partnerships across the Public Affairs function to deliver value-added service to leadership that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The CABP maintains an effective level of business literacy and understands the business unit's financial position, its strategy, culture, and competition as the foundation for their community engagement strategy.

This role sits within the Public Affairs Department and will report to the VP of Community and Government Affairs with a focus on public affairs at the community level in the Western and Eastern Regions including British Columbia, Lake Tahoe, the Midwest, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont)]. The business partner will work directly with mountain resort leadership to both facilitate and conduct direct outreach.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Public Affairs strategies for pursuing and achieving business priorities within resort communities, including advocacy for and management of special projects and other issue management.

  • Develop and manage relationships for the company with an initial focus on local communities in alignment with our Community & Government Affairs strategy.

  • Analyze external trends and community engagement against business priorities with resort leadership to align on integrated Public Affairs solutions.

  • Maintain situational awareness of key stakeholder and policy developments and help to make strategic recommendations on issues that may impact the Company.

  • Represent Vail Resorts externally.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally inside Vail Resorts.

  • Partner closely across the Public Affairs Department which includes the Public Relations and Communications team, the Environmental & Social Responsibility team, and the Government Affairs team focused on state and national affairs.

  • Partner with resort leadership to support and facilitate their external engagement and business priorities.

  • Act as a conduit between Public Affairs and Vail Resorts business units, appropriately communicating priorities and emerging issues to drive collaborative decision making and solutions.

  • Direct management of Community Analyst role

  • Maintain the operating budget for the Community & Government Affairs team.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 6-12 years of work experience, ideally with a background in government affairs, regulatory/government entities, intergovernmental associations, or non-governmental organizations (NGO), or coming from the business side with a background in Marketing, Communications, Strategy, Operations, or a customer-facing role

  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity by making the complex simple.

  • Experience developing integrated strategy and project managing with (and leading) cross-functional teams collaboratively.

  • Organized and self-motivated; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet the demands of a fast-paced and shifting environment

  • Strategic thinking with strong written and verbal communication, (writing samples may be requested).

  • Ability to engage credibly with senior executives to inspire confidence and influence.

  • Passion for doing good, leading teams, serving others, and driving value in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and fun.

  • High-level creative thinker with the confidence to use it; proactively seeks out newer, better ways to get things done, using existing resources and creating efficiencies

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $111,900 - $151,320 + annual bonus + equit. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
