Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Structural Engineer to take control of their career potential in our Upper Midwest Region. This position will partner with a multi-discipline team to develop designs of electrical substations to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Opportunities may include, but not limited to:
Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by municipal, cooperative, and investor-owned utilities, developers, and other transmission asset owners.
Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
Providing support for our clients during construction.
Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors.
Participating in project proposal efforts.
Performing quality control reviews for other engineers and designers.
Develop innovative processes, tools and design solutions.
Advancing into leadership roles.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Three (3) years of structural engineering experience, consulting preferred. Master of Science degree in structural engineering may be substituted for one (1) year experience.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a dynamic, quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques and principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Risa3D, STAAD, Mathcad, Microsoft Office Suite).
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred
