The Dental Hygienist will work in the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry's off-site community clinic in Hibbing, Minnesota. The Hibbing Community College Dental Clinic is located approximately 200 miles north of Minneapolis and is operated as a joint venture between the University of Minnesota and the Hibbing Community College (HCC). The clinic is operated in collaboration with the existing dental assisting program at HCC. The patient population is primarily low-income families in St. Louis, Lake, Cook, and Carlton Counties. Dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities are assigned as providers to this clinic to become familiar with the characteristics of a rural practice. The students develop an understanding of operating such a practice and gain experience in developing quality dental treatment plans to meet the financial constraints of low-income patients. Position overview This position will treat patients via direct patient care. If the Dental Hygienist has graduated with a bachelor's degree, they will also oversee student clinical work. Job Responsibilities: 100% * Assist dentists in examining, treating, and caring for patients. * Prepare the patient for the dentist and lays out required instruments and supplies. * Complete prophylactic care and treatment to dental patients. * Clean teeth. * Treat gums and cares for other oral conditions in accordance with the instructions of a dentist. * Educate patients in oral and dental hygiene. * Sterilize and cares for dental instruments, supplies, and medications. * Requisition needed supplies. * Make dietary analysis, salivary analysis and prepares smears. * Take digital radiographs. * Establish maintenance schedule for dental patients. * Maintain dental equipment in operatory and clinic in accordance with assigned schedules. * Assist with dental recall. * Administer local anesthetic and / or nitrous oxide analgesia (in accordance with treatment plan approved by a supervising dentist). * Complete referral documentation information to dental or medical specialists as directed by a supervising dentist. * Review patient medical and dental histories and follow up on the information provided as needed. * Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively. * Support all clinical policies and procedures of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. * If hygienist has graduated with a bachelor's degree: responsible to oversee, teach and direct hygiene students in the comprehensive periodontal assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment, and management of hygiene patients. Qualifications Required Qualifications: (Please detail all required qualifications on your application materials) * Graduation from an accredited course in dental hygiene * Current Minnesota dental hygiene license * Current CPR certification * omputer skills for working in electronic dental records * Ability to be a great teammate with all faculty and staff, be willing to step in and make the clinic run smoothly in all aspects of clinic operations * Be reliable, professional and courteous Preferred qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited course in dental hygiene * At least 3 years clinical experience in dental hygiene * Previous teaching experience How To Apply Applications must be submitted online.
