This is a 50%, 9-month, non-tenure-track position. The individual hired will be appointed to a 50%, 9-month position during the 2024-2025 academic year. This position is immediately available with an anticipated start date of August 2024. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Annual renewals are contingent upon a successful performance review, continuing need for the position, and availability of funds. Job Responsibilities Teaching and Curriculum Development (80%) Co-teach two courses per semester (FSOS 5944 & 5945 in Fall; FSOS 5946 & 5949 in Spring) Deliver course content via Canvas, an online learning platform. Course delivery and facilitation includes: conducting real-time chat sessions via Canvas or conference calls; monitoring and responding to online discussion forums; and the possibility of recording voice and/or video to accompany weekly PowerPoint modules. Prepare course materials including syllabi. Grade student materials including exams, papers, presentations, and final projects. Submit grades. Other duties as assigned. Student Advising (10%) Respond to student inquiries via email, phone, or in person. Evaluate student performance. Program Coordination (10%) Assist Program Director and Academic Advisor in program administration, including student teaching placement. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master's degree relevant to the teaching assignment required for appointment as Teaching Specialist. PhD or EdD relevant to the teaching assignment required for appointment as Lecturer. At least 18 graduate credits aligned to Parent and Family Education OR dissertation/published research in the field of Parent and Family Education. At least three years as a teacher of record with at least one as a Parent and Family educator. Current Minnesota Teaching License in Parent and Family Education or evidence of having completed a state-approved teacher preparation program in Parent and Family Education Evidence of at least ten hours of time annually in PK-12 schools or other Parent and Family Education environments Ability to develop and deliver courses in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities. Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities. Preferred Qualifications Strong record of teaching in a university setting. Strong understanding of curriculum concepts and processes. Evidence of a commitment to the development of learning materials or environments Experience in teaching within blended and/or completely online environments About the Department Department Overview The Department of Family Social Science (FSoS) prepares students to use research to discover and apply knowledge, build interpersonal communication skills, and develop personally and professionally.
