This position hires, trains, schedules, and supervises approximately 30 student employees to ensure that point of sale operations run smoothly, while also having a strong commitment to the University's goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate by advancing equity and diversity. The position is responsible for the front desk operations, customer service, and day to day interactions with members. In addition, this position is also responsible for coordinating events in St. Paul and assisting in departmental events. Typical hours of work are on-site, with some remote work possible, and will require some evening and weekend duties. This position has a starting annual salary of $50,000. Work Responsibilities Facility Operations (35%) Management and oversight of the St. Paul Gymnasium front desk operations (including point of sale) which sees 90,000+ member visits annually, two locker rooms (1150+ lockers), and two changing rooms. This involves being knowledgeable in Fusion, departmental policies, programs, and memberships, while providing a safe and inclusive space for all. Assist in the daily operations of the St. Paul Gymnasium, St. Paul Gym Field, St. Paul Tennis Courts, and the RecWell St. Paul Soccer Fields. Evaluating the effectiveness of policies, procedures, and operations and making recommendations for changes related to lockers, memberships, and facility operations. High level contributor for point of sale platform (Fusion) for membership and locker rental transactions, and locker room management. Provide input to the Director of St. Paul Facilities regarding the approximately $364,000 facilities operations budget and long-range planning. Assist the Director of St. Paul Facilities, Gopher Swim School, and Youth Programs by reporting maintenance issues and repairs, proposing projects, and ensuring clean, safe, and properly functioning facilities. Assist in the development of strategies with Brand Management for marketing to promote memberships, equipment rental, locker sales, and student staff recruitment. Assist with the supervision and direction of the St. Paul Gymnasium in the absence of the Director of St. Paul Facilities. Assist in the planning and implementation of special events for the St. Paul Gymnasium. Membership Services (30%) Collaborate with the Director of Membership Outreach on customer service related issues, promotions, and locker and membership sales/renewals. Manage over $600,000 in annual revenue through RecWell's payroll deduction program which encourages staff/faculty to be more active and develop healthy lifestyles. Manage and general oversight of Fit Choices and all 65+ (age) reimbursement programs which bring in approximately $15,000 in annual revenue. Providing departmental support by organizing Fusion point of sale training sessions to full-time staff. Supervision (25%) Hire, train, and supervise approximately 30 part-time student staff that are directly involved in facility operations and customer service. Training staff in facility operations including: Maintaining access and security into the building, communicating maintenance requests to appropriate full-time staff, responding to emergencies, and general set up and takedown of equipment. Training staff in customer service skills including: Answering member questions, relaying member requests to appropriate full-time staff, selling memberships, renting equipment, and lockers and conflict resolution. Develop performance goals, monitor employee progress regularly for accountability, and motivate staff to do their best while assessing progress of evelopment related to the University of Minnesota's Student Development Outcomes. Monitor and approve student payroll. Financial (10%) Manage transactional sales for the St. Paul Gym Oversee deposits for cash and check revenue into EFS for Youth Programs and St. Paul Gymnasium. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of St Paul Facilities and the Associate Director of Facilities and Membership. Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS plus at least two (2) years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six (6) years Previous supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications Experience with and access into PeopleSoft Financials/EFS Skilled in Microsoft Access database and computers Previous customer service experience Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) About the Department Recreation & Wellness is a department within the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs (OSA) at the University of Minnesota.
