WSP USA Senior Consultant, Civil Engineering in Minneapolis, Minnesota

This Opportunity

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Consultant Civil Engineer to join our Transportation and Infrastructure team. The position is hybrid and will be based out of WSP’s Minneapolis-MN office.

Provides transportation, roadway, and infrastructure design and project management for department of transportation, metropolitan council, county and/or municipal clients, both in Minnesota and throughout the USA. Responsibilities include project management, concept and preliminary planning and design, feasibility study preparation, cost estimating, final design, plan and specification preparation, procurement, and construction management support for roadway and infrastructure projects. Provides situational guidance to team members that address current and future challenges, and that documentation and recommendations accurately account for and address risk, innovation, and future-ready opportunities. Provides leadership with ensuring the responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and client standards for design, safety and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Lead or assist with the preparation of plan drawings, specifications, design documentation reports, bid quantities, and construction cost estimates.

  • Work with junior, mid-level, and senior professionals of various disciplines to complete engineering assignments.

  • Develop unique solutions to solve problems encountered during the design and in the field.

  • Develop and work within budget and schedule.

  • Mentor and provide guidance and training to entry-level and junior staff.

  • Perform site visits (on occasion) to confirm field conditions.

  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.

  • Assist with development and scoping of projects.

  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

  • Perform engineering assignments that require critical thinking and creativity to address unique project elements.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Minimum 5-years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience in similar positions.

  • Registered as a professional engineer in MN, or the ability to do so within 6 months.

  • Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our culture is a must.

  • Proficient knowledge of roadway engineering principles, practices, processes, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues, with emphasis on roadway and infrastructure principles.

  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.

  • Demonstrated project management experience with small to mid-level projects.

  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC procedures.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, OpenRoads, Geopak, and spreadsheets).

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience related to civil construction.

  • Design and project management experience related to Minnesota Department of Transportation projects.
