This position will also assist with grant management and reporting for these projects. Applies in-depth level subject matter knowledge. Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding. Creates project plan in concert with team ensuring that resources and staff are in place to meet schedule and objectives. Assists with aspects of lab management and mentors staff assisting with their research objectives. Decisions are guided by lab expectations, grant terms, and personal and lab research priorities. Job Duties: (30%) Conduct a large research project or several smaller projects and coordinate the analysis evaluation and reporting on phases of the project(s). This may include developing research plans and solving highly complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through the original design of protocols, policies, and procedures. (15%) Serves as an expert resource to lab members, outside collaborators, and/or the scientific community. (15%) Direct and supervise undergraduate and graduate students to assist in preparation and performance of studies. (15%) Prepare manuscripts for publication and work with journal editors/reviewers for publication. (10%) Manages the financial and budgetary aspects of a lab and research project. (10%) Interpret complex data and advise PI and other within lab, outside investigators, industry members, etc. (5%) Discuss and plan new avenues of investigation. Assist in drafting proposal to procure research funding. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in plant science or microbiology with a substantial research and publication record. Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in plant phenotyping and laboratory techniques for plant pathogen diagnostics About the Department This position is in the McCaghey Lab in the Department of Plant Pathology in CFANS of the St. Paul, MN campus of the U of M.
