We seek a highly motivated and organized scientist to lead the ManureDB - a national database for manure nutrients - grant-funded project and manage and publish manure-related research data. Publications will include peer-reviewed articles, grant and agency reports, and Extension media. The person hired will be expected to handle a variety of assigned complex research related projects and will apply in-depth level subject matter knowledge. The expected start date is January 2025 or sooner and salary will be commensurate with experience. This appointment will be annually renewed contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory job performance. Job Duties: 50% Lead the ManureDB project, coordinating data gathering, cleaning, uploading, troubleshooting, and analyses. Meet with collaborators and stakeholders to solicit data, recruit data users, communicate updates, manage the database's public portal, and evaluate project outcomes/goals. Manage the financial and budgetary aspects of the project under general direction of the Principal Investigator. 30% Collect, organize, and interpret complex data and advise PI and other collaborators/stakeholders on results. Write and publish results in peer-reviewed articles, grant and agency reports, and Extension media. Publish organized data in data repositories. 10% Serve as an expert resource to lab members, outside collaborators, and/or the scientific community. Prepare presentations and speak at events, conferences, and workshops. 5% Direct and supervise undergraduate students and assist with graduate students in preparation and performance of studies. 5% Assist with identifying and securing funds to continue or expand research projects. Qualifications Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in soil science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline in the agricultural sciences with substantial research and publication record. * Demonstrated understanding of nutrient management for field crops and associated environmental challenges. * Ability to interpret and summarize research results of other scientists. * Excellent writing and oral communication skills. * Experience working/collaborating in a team or with other scientists. Preferred Qualifications: * At least 5 years of experience in manure or nutrient management planning * Experience managing and analyzing large environmental datasets * Project management experience About the Department This position is in the Wilson Lab in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate in CFANS on the St. Paul, MN campus of the University of Minnesota.
