About the Job: The Department of Surgery and the University of Minnesota is seeking a Researcher/Scientist 5 to join Dr. Christopher Banek's Cardiovascular Neurophysiology Research Laboratory. The Research Scientist will design, perform, and analyze electrophysiological studies for ongoing and future projects in Dr. Banek's lab, interact and coordinate activities with collaborating laboratories (domestically and internationally), and interface with laboratory personnel and participate in laboratory activities to integrate molecular and electrophysiological data acquisition. This researcher will initiate and drive the writing of peer-reviewed scientific articles or publications and develop and collaborate with Dr. Banek on new grant proposals for current and future projects. This research must also formulate and develop new techniques, methods, and apparatuses of ongoing and future electrophysiological research. Specific duties include: Principal Duties/Responsibilities: Collaborate with a team of interdisciplinary researchers to identify hypotheses, coordinate acquisition of electrophysiological and molecular data, develop and implement appropriate statistical analyses, summarize findings, draft manuscripts, participate actively in developing new grant proposals. Professionally corresponds with sponsors and principal investigators by phone and/or email (70%). Initiate and write grant proposals (internal and external) for ongoing and future research projects (10%). Initiate and write research articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Author and present results with PI at meetings or conferences (10%). Maintain safety and research oversight records, research protocol compliance (IACUC), order lab supplies, and other administrative duties as needed. Interact with laboratory and data managers on the measurement, quality control, and quality assurance of biological data. Leads and/or supervises lower-level staff (10%). Supervision: This position will be supervised primarily by Dr. Chris Banek. Qualifications Required Qualifications: * PhD (or equivalent) in electrophysiology, physiology, neuroscience, biophysics, or related fields, with one or more years of research training. * Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications: * Minimum of 5 years of experience in whole-cell patch-clamp experimentation is required. * Biostatistical analyses in Graphpad Prism, or related statistical software, is required. * Minimum of 3-4 first-authored publications in electrophysiological studies is preferred. * Minimum of 1-2 years of managerial experience and research compliance oversight is preferred.
