Fairview Health Services Registered Nurse (RN)- Cardiac Cath Lab in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

We at Fairview Health Services are looking for a dedicated RN for our Cardiac Cath lab located at our University of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank location in Mpls, MN! The Cardiovascular RN position available to help fill in for pre -planned and last minutes needs working with our Outpatient department providing procedural work for cardiology procedures supporting patients undergoing non-invasive cardiac testing, MRI, CT, Pharmacological nuclear imaging and transthoracic echocardiograms.   Working as a team with the physician and technicians we perform non-invasive exams for patients in our department (including inpatient ED and ICU). Cardiology is a, fast-paced, complex environment offering advanced learning opportunities for the right candidate while partnering with an experienced multidisciplinary team. Schedule: This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 10 hours on the day shift. The hours will be 7:30am-6pm with call possibly one night per week and one weekend per month.

Responsibilities Job Description

RN is responsible for managing the care of the each patient beginning with pre-procedure assessment, IV start, post-procedure, and patient education followed by procedural conscious sedation and monitoring, specimen collection and hands on assistance during the procedure. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.   Other duties within the department assigned are scheduling the patients for procedures, patient assessment with complications, and IV starts within other modalities.

  • Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct and minimize risk to the patient.

  • Assumes accountability for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of care

  • Identifies emergent situations and initiates resuscitation measures are warranted

  • Manages sedation in adult patients

  • Nursing Theory and practice

  • Patient assessment skills

  • Knowledge and skills related to ECG interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

  • Knowledge of IV medications

  • Knowledge and skills related to sedation continuum

  • Critical Thinking skills

  • Knowledge of Inventory control - Responsible for the proper maintenance, care and preparation of supplies and equipment used in the department for invasive procedures.

  • Knowledge of Specimen care - Properly identifies and prepares patient specimens for the lab.

  • Computer Application abilities - Utilizes EPIC andPyxis system and the Radiology information/PACS system. 

  • Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patients and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.

  • Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by patient’s condition and/or the hospital policies, procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.

  • Pain Management including; administer medications, record, assess and observe patient progress, reactions and symptoms.

  • Post procedural oral sedation teaching and discharge instructions are an important part of our patient care

  • Establish and implement nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, activation, evaluation and discharge.

  • Organize, assign and supervise duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader; orient and teach new staff members of the nursing team and students.

  • Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facility.

  • Participate in non-clinical assignments, which may include serving on special committees.

Qualifications

  • ACLS and BLS for healthcare providers must be current by start date.

  • At least 2 years of Critical Care RN experience (experience with hemodynamic monitoring and vents)Casuals (take out)

  • At least 1 yearCritical Care RN experience (experience with hemodynamic monitoring and vents) FTE (take out)Current MN RN Licensure by start date
