Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Behavioral Emergency Center at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

The Behavioral Emergency Center (BEC) provides a calming, healing approach to emergent mental health care, offering patients in crisis immediate care from trained mental health professionals in a relaxed environment, with direct connections to outpatient treatment.

Schedule: This position will be working a 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks) on the day/evening shift. The shift length is 8 hours long and will work an every other weekend rotation.

About our Behavioral Emergency Center Department at UMMC West Bank

  • The BEC cares for both pediatric and adult patients.

  • This position will also work in our future EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment & Healing) unit.

  • M Health Fairview is the first in Minnesota to offer an EmPATH model of care! With EmPATH, mental health patients undergo a quick medical screening before entering a living-room-style setting where they can access the support and care they need to stabilize their situation, receive ongoing human interaction, and in many cases avoid the need for inpatient admission.

Responsibilities Job Description

As a Registered Nurse in the Behavioral Emergency Center Department, you will be responsible for:

  • Utilizing a detailed process to assess the physical and mental health needs of the patient, which will provide a framework from which patient care is planned [knows disease processes, therapy, complications, expected outcomes for specific patient population(s)]

  • Contributing to the development of an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary team providing a comprehensive plan of care.

  • Administering medications according to a policy used for the management of behavioral patients with knowledge of actions, contraindications, side effects, and desired outcomes.

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing interventions in meeting the identified emotional, psychological, and physical needs, making revisions based on these outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Current MN RN License

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • 1 year of mental health experience (preferred in the last 5 years)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN)

  • 1 year of mental health experience in the last 3 years.
