Our goal is to understand the fundamental molecular motions and interactions that are responsible for cellular movement, to determine the molecular bases of muscle disorders, and to devise novel therapies based on these discoveries. We approach this multidisciplinary problem with a wide range of techniques -- physiology, enzyme kinetics, molecular genetics, peptide synthesis, computer simulation -- but our forte is site-directed spectroscopic probes. Essential and Other Functions: 60% Develop and apply biophysical methods for structural and functional analysis of muscle proteins, to test molecular models for muscle function and malfunction. 40% Write papers based on your work for publication in scientific journals, and present your work at national and international scientific meetings. Work with mentor on career development plan. Qualifications Required Qualifications: PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, physics, or chemistry. Experience in EPR, fluorescence, phosphorescence, muscle, or membrane proteins. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in myosin biochemistry.
