This project is part of a multi NIH grants-funded project to identify the mechanism of action of the peptides encoded by the VGF, and especially the neuropeptide TLQP-21 and it C3aR1 receptor, in energy balance with the long-term goal of developing novel pharmacotherapies for obesity and obesity-associated disease. The newly hired postdoc will benefit from state-of-the-art metabolic phenotyping facilities (including the Integrative Biology and Physiology Phenotyping Cores and many other) and in vitro molecular genetic facilities and a highly collaborative environment. The Bartolomucci Lab is also affiliated with several NIH-funded Training grants as well as the Minnesota Obesity Center. (70%) Design and implement laboratory experiments to dissecting central/peripheral nervous system pathways regulating energy balance and obesity, with a special focus on the VGF-derived neuropeptide TLQP-21 and the C3ar1 receptor. Collect and analyze data. (20%) Prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and presentations at scientific meeting. Works with the PI to prepare grant applications for training grants or R01 NIH grant applications. (10%) Attend journal clubs, lab meetings and other scientific meetings as requested. Expertise in CNS delivery of peptides/drugs/AAVs as well as expertise in the use of mouse genetic models (cre-lox system etc). IHC, QPCR and other standard molecular techniques. Experience in working with mice. Experience with 1) metabolic phenotyping, food intake and energy balance, obesity and/or 2) behavioral biology, psychopharmacology is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in hypothalamic/brainstem pathways regulating energy balance (food intake/energy expenditure) is preferred but not essential.
