Fairview Health Services Nursing Education Specialist - Pediatric Critical Care in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Are you looking to make an impact on the physical, emotional and cultural needs of pediatric patients and their families? Join our team as a Nursing Education Specialist at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital!

Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. This position is responsible for PICU, CVICU, Critical Care Float Pool onboarding and ongoing teaching and collaborates closesly with our P&E teams.

The Nursing Education Specialist will be working full-time on the day shift, 8 hour shifts, weekends as needed. Job Expectations

Assess learning needs of individuals, groups and departments

  • Uses a variety of approaches to assess the ongoing learning needs of staff including competence assessments, surveys, interview, quality management reports, new practice guidelines and procedures, new research, regulatory requirements, and critical initiatives that support the mission of Fairview.

  • Considers the needs of employees and all other relevant staff, e.g. students, volunteers, contract workers, and/or physicians

  • Validates and documents identified needs

Communicates efficiently

  • Communicates frequently and reliably with team members to ensure learning needs are met

  • Brings educational expertise to other arenas such a policy and procedure development, quality improvement efforts, and activities in support of the strategic plan

  • Collaborates with other departments to identify and evaluate learner ability to meet OR-related competencies

  • Plan and design learning approaches to meet the identified needs.

  • Offer learning opportunities to meet the identified needs.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the learning opportunities.

  • Demonstrate ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served

  • Develop a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing

  • One year as a direct patient care RN

  • MN RN License

  • BLS

Preferred:

  • Three or more years as a direct patient care RN.

  • Two or more years as a preceptor.

  • AANC certification in specialty
