Job Description
AECOM has a position available for a Lead Microgrid Solution Architect to join the Engineering Center of Excellence within the Energy practice supporting clean energy initiatives. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States .
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, etc.).
We are looking for an up-and-coming leader with a technical diverse background in distributed energy solutions to provide technically excellent results for our clients as well as promote our skills to new clients by directly supporting sales and business development.
The responsibilities for the position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Lead by example in engineering execution functioning as technical lead on all size distributed energy resources projects
Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)
Originate and support the development of document designs/drawings, sequence of operations, equipment specifications, system approval test procedures, and other system-related information for feasibility through detailed design project scopes
Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
Evaluates the feasibility of installing microgrid systems at new or existing client facilities considering the physical and electrical infrastructure constraints present at each site
Produces conceptual designs that can incorporate a variety of energy resources, including renewables, thermal generation and battery storage, in order to meet financial, resilience and/or environmental goals for each project
Develops financial models of microgrid revenue generation to optimize sizing of generation and energy storage capacity
Performs power system studies to validate equipment ratings and verify reliable operation of the microgrid during grid-tied and islanded system operation
Collaborate with multi-discipline technical leads to integrate mechanical energy generation assets and complete the LV/MV wiring and power designs for full spectrum distributed energy client solutions
Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings including those requiring occasional travel
Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for engineering work activities
Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable and decentralized energy projects

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
8+ years of relevant experience in power generation / industry engineering and design
Experience must include design and integration of utility-scale renewable and battery storage systems coupled with leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications :
Professional engineering (PE) licensure
Advanced professional degree
Minimum four (4) years of leadership/supervisory experience preferred
12+ years of relevant experience preferred
Experience in the specification and integration of battery energy storage systems
Proficient with DER interconnect standards and communication protocols
Advanced knowledge of control methods, energy management systems, load controllers and switchgear.
Experience with power system modeling and analysis tools, including SKM/ETAP, or similar software packages
Experience in advanced grid stability modeling (e.g. PSS/E, PSLF)
Experience with software in the industry such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, Helioscope, Homer, ETAP, WindPRO
Proficient in system financial estimation (Capex, Opex), PPA recommendation and calculating ROI
Proficient in MV AC Collection System Design
Proficient with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855
Deep knowledge of utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP etc.).
Able to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
Field construction and commissioning experience
Demonstrated success working in remote teams

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $130,000.00 - $192,000.00.
