Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Histotechnologist to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Research Histology and Digital Imaging Lab within the University of Minnesota's CTSI. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the research objectives of the department by providing expert histological services, coordinating laboratory workflows, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. Location: This is an onsite position in our Histology Research Laboratory located in Minneapolis, MN, on the East Bank campus in Jackson Hall. Key Responsibilities Technical Expertise & Development (50%) Perform advanced histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and microscopy. Develop and optimize protocols for histological analysis to support diverse research projects. Collaborate with researchers to design protocols and interpret histological data. Stay current with advancements in histology to maintain cutting-edge capabilities. Laboratory Operations & Coordination (30%) Oversee the daily technical operations of the research histology lab, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality output. Coordinate work schedules and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines. Serve as a point of contact for lab inquiries and technical troubleshooting. Assist in resource management, including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment. Support the BLS Director in monitoring lab finances, including billing processes and cost optimization. Research Support & Collaboration (15%) Partner with researchers to provide technical expertise and support for histology-based studies. Contribute to tissue microarray development, IHC/IF quality control, and antibody workups in collaboration with Pathology. Foster collaborative relationships with faculty, researchers, and external partners. Quality Control & Safety (5%) Maintain quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of histological preparations. Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, and waste disposal regulations. Conduct routine checks and audits to uphold lab efficiency and safety standards. Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications Baccalaureate degree or higher in Histology, Pathology, Biological Sciences, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a histology lab. Or an advanced degree plus at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least 9 years. Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Previous experience in a leadership or coordination role. In-depth knowledge of histological techniques and equipment. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to lab operations and research.
