Barr Engineering Internship - Civil Technician (Hybrid) in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Job Description: Summary: Barr is seeking a civil design/technician student to work on project teams involved with civil engineering and design and related technical activities. Typical project responsibilities may include design using CADD modeling software and assistance with construction plans and specifications; supporting internal project teams by creating, preparing, modifying, and managing drawings specifications, and models for design documents; field data reduction; and spreadsheet preparation. Fieldwork opportunities may include survey and other field tasks. Minimum Qualifications: Pursuing an associate degree in civil engineering technology or a related engineering field Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D either through coursework or industry Experience with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients Completed or enrolled in physics and/or mathematics coursework At least one full-time semester of coursework remaining after internship is complete A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs Detail-oriented, thorough, and organized approach Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel GPA of 3.2 or higher Previous construction observation, Civil 3D, or other design software experience Experience with GPS survey equipment A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office. NOTE: Applicant must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites. Work may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
