The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Academic Standards, Instruction and Assessment Division is looking for an Education Consultant 3 – Health Education Specialist to join the Academic Standards team. This position will provide direction, leadership, and strengthen capacity of school districts and to the Academic Standards, Instruction and Assessment team so that all students can meet state academic standards and are prepared for postsecondary and career success. Additionally, the Health Education Specialist will facilitate the development, implementation, and support of the statewide academic standards in health and serve as the state expert and primary resource for K-12 health education.

As the Health Standards Specialist you will:

• Participate in rulemaking

• Focus on equity

• Engage in continuous improvement

• Assist instruction leaders with innovative ways

• Create a collective and in-depth shared understanding of the partnership

• Support educators with Health legislation implementation across disciplines

• Provide Technical Assistance to educators within a formative assessment system

• Develop and maintain a statewide system of training and support for districts in the implementation of Health Standards

• Coordinate the state’s K-12 Health Education Standards, licensure review, and rulemaking processes so that standards reflect best-practices in Health Education

• Provide guidance on standards, graduation requirements, and related state policies

• Analyze data to inform policies and practices related to standards-based education

In addition, you will network and learn from many stakeholders across the state of Minnesota and develop partnerships within the Division of Academic Standards, Instruction, and Assessment to ensure academic standards are being taught with the appropriate levels of rigor for all students to access across all content areas no matter the student’s zip codes.

The Division of Academic Standards, Instruction, and Assessment supports the development of training resources for schools to successfully implement academic standards and balanced assessment systems.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires five (5) years of combined professional experience as a Health teacher and Administrator of Health education programs within an education setting; a master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience administrating health education programs at the state or district level,

• Experience teaching locally adopted academic standards in Health to all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities,

• Experience in standards revision process,

• Experience as a district leader,

• Experience developing and facilitating professional development for educators,

• Experience with large scale of Project Management, and

• License K-12 Health Education.
