Department Overview Proudly serving as Minnesota's children's hospital since 1924, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year, Children's provides care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent, not-for-profit health care provider, Children's has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services, including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory, cardiology, cancer, premature birth, adolescent development, child abuse, and epilepsy. In addition to our Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses, Children's also includes Children's West, a pediatric care center in Minnetonka offering same-day surgery as well as diagnostic, rehabilitative, and developmental outpatient services; Children's - Roseville, an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center; and Children's Clinics - Woodwinds, pediatric specialty clinics at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury. Position Summary The Security Director is responsible for all aspects of the security management and emergency preparedness programs for the organization. Oversees the development, leadership and implementation of the overall emergency preparedness and security strategies through the development of the team, development of strategic partnerships, and implementation of key initiatives. The position is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, families, visitors and Children's employees. Strategically plans, manages, and continuously evaluates the security management and emergency preparedness programs, developing, revising and instituting comprehensive and effective security strategies and policies that focus on high-quality results, ensuring optimal utilization of resources, while meeting or exceeding regulatory and compliance requirements. Serves as a strategic leader, bringing forward insight and perspective about opportunities for improvement and efficiencies. Is a proactive problem-solver, collaboratively and inclusively bringing people together to reach thoughtful solutions. Seeks to address barriers/challenges/issues at all levels in the organization and represents the security management and emergency preparedness programs in every engagement. This position serves all Children's Minnesota locations including the Minneapolis and St. Paul Children's hospital campuses, Children's Business Campus, ambulatory clinic locations, and non- clinical Children's locations. The position works collaboratively with contracted security services, local/state/federal law enforcement and emergency preparedness officials. License/Certification/Registration Required: *Valid state driver's l cense, without restriction is required Education: *High school diploma required *Bachelor's Degree required (Criminal Justice, Security Management, Security Administration or related field) *Master's Degree preferred in a related field Experience: *Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience (private security, public safety, security operations, etc.) *Minimum of 5 years leading people *Healthcare knowledge and experience preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *Strategic vision, planning & execution skills, including an ability to use data to enhance and improve current processes *Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at various levels and across diverse cultures *Dynamic team leader able to inspire, develop security team, build networks and develop trusting relationships *Must possess excellent multi-tasking abilities and be capable of prioritizing tasks and setting priorities in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment *Track record of successfully leading people & change, as well as developing managers to the next level of performance and achievement *Ability to mentor and grow staff *Experience and knowledge of leadership practices and procedures *Strong customer service and results orientation *Ability to work with senior executive and staff at any level *Exceptional judgment *Comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the hospital system and law enforcement, emergency preparedness partners and how these systems support each other to provide quality patient care. *Forward innovative thinker with the confidence to take risks *Proven ability to lead process improvement and develop performance management systems *Ability to build consensus amongst diverse stakeholders *Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a high degree of independence *Excellent verbal and written communication skills *Diverse and extensive knowledge of security systems, operations, procedures and best practices *Comprehensive understanding of Hospital incident Command structure *Experience overseeing disaster/emergency drills and after-action evaluations. *Chairs, serves or participates on various committees. Is actively involved in organizational preparation and on-going readiness for regulatory visits *Leads communication and partnership efforts with local emergency responders, such as police, fire, and EMS *Ability to represent Children's within professional organizations and at special events *Ability to travel to various Children's locations *Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job *Ability to operate computer systems and applications Physical Demands Please click here to view the Physical Demands The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. We carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children's Minnesota.
