Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute Clinical Veterinarian in Minneapolis, Minnesota
The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has a current opening for a Clinical Veterinarian to support our clinical research. This is an on-call position to take call during 26 weekends, 6 company observed holidays and 3 weeks of coverage annually for the Director of Veterinary Services. This is a hybrid role where you'll split your time between remote and onsite work located in downtown Minneapolis, MN. Description: Provide clinical veterinary advice and services. Train facility staff as requested. Collaborate with and provide guidance and support for investigators' research activities. Duties Provide veterinary advice in compliance with federal and state requirements for laboratory animal care and use. Serve as attending veterinarian in the absence of the Director. Provide veterinary medical care to laboratory animals and act as a resource on animal health information, queries, problems, and models. Apply preventive medicine programs including rodent sentinel, vendor surveillance and quarantine programs. Provide guidance for protocol development and compliance with regulatory requirements in the absence of the Director. Collaborate with and provide guidance and support for investigators' research activities. Provides medical and surgical services in support of the health of animals and within regulatory guidelines. Prescribes medications, establishes and administers treatment plans, and performs surgeries on animals. Qualifications: Education/Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited college, current Minnesota license to practice veterinary medicine with at least two (2) years of experience as a veterinarian in a research animal setting. Skill, Knowledge & Ability (SKA): Must possess thorough knowledge of and experience with federal and state requirements for programs of laboratory animal care and use, including the Animal Welfare Act, the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the standards of the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC, International). Requires interaction with a diverse population. Requires excellent interpersonal skills with strong written/oral communication skills. Must have self-confidence and the ability to work well under pressure. Able to make sound judgment, relying on past experience. Must have excellent problem solving and be able to delegate appropriately. Must possess the ability to collaborate, to compromise and to negotiate effectively. Maintains confidentiality, manages time effectively and displays high standards of attendance and punctuality.
