Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Clinical Associate (0.5 FTE) or Medical Assistant (0.5 FTE)- Ambulatory Float Pool in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are currently seeking a Clinical Associate or Medical Assistantto join our Ambulatory Float Pool team. This part-time role (five shifts per pay period) will work on-site at our downtown Minneapolis campus and community clinics.

This role can be filled at the Clinical Associate or Medical Assistant level. These benefit-eligible roles are union represented and primarily work day shift. Opportunities for tuition reimbursement and advancement. /**This opening is currently set to work Monday-Friday day hours but may expand to include evenings and weekends as we grow./

Hennepin Healthcare's AFSCME pay range(s): - Clinical Associates: $20.80-$25.48 - Medical Assistants: $22.39-$28.88

*SUMMARY*

Clinical Associate -Under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), Manager/ Clinic Nurse Supervisor, charge nurse, and/or their delegates, performs basic direct patient care tasks and clinic support functions.

Medical Assistant -Under the direction/ delegation of a physician(s) or other clinical care team members, the Medical Assistant contributes to the health and well-being of patients by providing quality and competent patient & family centered care/ services that meet HCMC and departmental standards.

*RESPONSIBILITIES - Clinical Associate*

  • Rooms patients and obtains and documents vital signs, weight, height, head circumference (infants), and hearing and vision screenings
  • Prepares exam rooms for patients and sets up rooms for basic procedures
  • Cleans and/or sterilizes equipment to support infection control and OSHA standards
  • Stocks and organizes clinic supplies
  • Transports patients to and from tests
  • Assists patients to transportation as needed
  • Communicates observations and measurements outside of norm to RN or provider
  • Labels and delivers tissue and fluid samples
  • Initiates emergency response for medical emergencies and safety risks
  • Performs point of care testing, such as glucometer testing
  • Assists families with screening forms, such as developmental screen
  • Answers the phones, performs data entry, and greets patients
  • Simple appointment scheduling and limited registration tasks
  • Runs reports
  • Supports population health activities if appropriate, which may include outreach calls or care coordination
  • Other duties as assigned

*RESPONSIBILITIES – Medical Assistant *

  • Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other providers including: administer medications, injections, and immunizations, spirometry, tympanometry, apply minor dressings and splints, connect patients to portable monitors e.g. pulse oximetry, nebulization, glucose monitoring, and urethral catheterization and other clinical duties as delegated within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
  • Set up for and provide direct assistance to physicians and other licensed care providers with medical examinations and procedures including: colposcopy, flex sigmoidoscopy, minor surgery
  • Perform specimen collection including: blood draws, sputum samples and urine samples.
  • Perform hearing and vision screens and developmental testing
  • Review patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enter information into the patient medical record
  • Perform basic patient care activities including: place patients in rooms, take and chart vital signs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

*QUALIFICATIONS - Clinical Associate* /Minimum Qualifications:/

  • High school diploma or equivalent

/Preferred Qualifications:/

  • Direct patient care experience (such as EMT, Nursing Assistant)
  • Post high-school education in healthcare, biology, or related field
  • Bilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients

/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/

  • Ability to learn specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HHS standards
  • Ability to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient population
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate with team members
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions; understand and communicate verbal and written information
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations as well as HHS standards related to quality, accuracy, productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service, etc.

/License/Certifications:/

  • Active BLS/CPR certification, or obtained within 3 months of hire
  • Ambulatory Care Float Pool: Any position in the float pool require driving to off campus clinics. Must have a valid driver’s license and the availability of an insured vehicle or demonstrate ability to travel to offsite clinics during the work shift within a one-hour timeframe.

*QUALIFICATIONS – Medical Assistant *

/Minimum Qualifications:/

  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant school (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) that includes a clinical externship or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, as evidenced through educational transcripts

/Preferred Qualifications:/

  • Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health record
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software
  • 6 months related experience or HHS externship
  • Possesses active certification by the AAMA or active registration by the AMT at hire
  • Bilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients

/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/

  • Ability to perform specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HHS standards
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to effectively interview patients and collect information required to obtain medical history and to accurately register and/or schedule patients
  • Ability to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient population
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate with multidisciplinary staff
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions; understand and communicate verbal and written information
  • Ability to perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations as well as HHS standards related to quality, accuracy, productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service, etc

/License/Certifications:/

  • Credentialed or Registered through AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within thirteen (13) months of employment
  • Must have and maintain valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification or the ability to obtain this within the first three months of employment
  • Ambulatory Care Float Pool: Medical Assistant positions in the float pool require driving to off campus clinics. Must have a valid driver’s license and the availability of an insured vehicle or demonstrate ability to travel to offsite clinics during the work shift within a one-hour timeframe.
