These priority areas are in partnership with leaders throughout the Medical School / OACA, M Health Fairview and other clinical partner leadership. In addition, this position is responsible individually for securing significant philanthropic support through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of principal and major gifts from various sources including individuals, foundations, corporations, and businesses. Starting salary: $180,000- 200,000 based on experience. Responsibilities: Development Leadership: (50%) Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of the development program for the assigned medical units (Cancer & Children's Health, Neuro, Heart / Medicine & Surgery) for the University of Minnesota and in partnership with M Health Fairview and other clinical partners Manage all aspects of the Medicine & Health team, including recruitment, retention, performance management, development and coaching of staff * Establish and manage the fundraising for Cancer & Women's and Children's Health, Neuro, Heart / Med & Surg as well as other emerging priorities including the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, Aging, Infectious Disease Institute, and others as deemed a focus for philanthropy by VP for Clinical Affairs & Dean of the Medical School Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the medical enterprise including centers and institutes including the Masonic Cancer Center, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, Lillehei Heart Institute, Medical Devices Center and compellingly present their case to prospects and donors In partnership with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships & Signature Philanthropy, provide strategic oversight of philanthropic boards and committees for these areas within Medicine & Health Provide thought leadership for philanthropic vision and strategy for leaders within the Office of the Dean of the Medical School and leadership of M Health Fairview with regard to strategic advice on next steps on top prospects. Partner with UMF development leaders to advance multi-disciplinary initiatives for these areas within Medicine & Health, notably colleagues within Corporate Foundation Relations Prospect Management and Major Gift Work: (40%) Provide leadership and strategic planning direction for principal and major gift efforts to ensure that prospect qualification, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities are seamless. Manage a portfolio of transformational and major gift donors to ensure all metrics are achieved and significant philanthropy can be achieved to support Medical School, OACA, and Health System priorities (personal goal of $6M annually) Collaborate with other functions to ensure coordinated, unified approach to relationships with all constituents - Involve appropriate leadership in donor cultivation strategies and visits Complete and file timely reports of donor/prospect contacts by utilizing database, employing discretion while recording information of relevance to appropriate individuals, and maintain accurate and relevant records within the database Coordinate prospective donors through appropriate UMF procedures to ensure effective solicitation of the donor that maximizes the gift to the University and the donors satisfaction with the institution Organizational: (10%) Serves as a leader on the Med / Health development team by collaborating with the University of Minnesota oundation and development colleagues across disciplines on donor strategies. Serves on committees as requested and attends regular faculty and departmental meetings as requested. Completes and files timely reports. Maintains accurate and relevant records within the University of Minnesota Foundation database. Participate in special projects, as assigned. Handle other duties and assignments as might be required. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's (4-year) degree and twelve years demonstrated ability to successfully solicit major gifts; or combined major gift fundraising leadership experience plus experience in marketing, consultative sales, public relations, financial advisement or related field where cultivation/solicitation and maintenance of client relationships (either individuals or businesses) for provision of services was a primary responsibility. Experience leading, supervising, or managing development teams or programs * Demonstrated knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a strong sense of urgency coupled with demonstrated success in management of multiple priorities Demonstrated success in working independently but also collaboratively in a team setting Solid relationship-building skills with a diverse constituency of donors, faculty, strategic partners, volunteers and UMF staff Experience in coordinating volunteers; demonstrated ability to motivate and lead people and to work collaboratively Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective presentation skills Ability to maintain confidential information; knowledge of healthcare regulations helpful Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations Preferred Qualifications Development experience, including capital campaign experience, in higher education, health, or disease-related institution Demonstrated experience in identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts prospects and donors.
