Competently assists Clinicians and other medical staff members with veterinary medical procedures which may include (but are not limited to) specialty care (i.e. Ophthalmology, Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Dermatology, Dentistry, Cardiology, Neurology, Behavior, SA Therio, Nutrition, Integrative, and General Practice), laboratory procedures, radiography, anesthesiology, administering treatments, animal nursing, animal restraint and handling, preventative care, clinical research, etc. within assigned service area as well as across functions as needed. Performs at the highest level of veterinary technical expertise in the service area assigned, assisting with complex cases both independently and with some minimal supervision. The specific duties and work schedule will vary based on current needs. Responsibilities Under the direction of a DVM, perform, teach, and train veterinary procedures to veterinary and veterinary technician students. Orient and evaluate students and float technicians to service area. With oversight by a DVM, applies clinical job knowledge and competence to diagnosis, treatment, and care. Employee use time efficiently/utilizes down time efficiently: takes initiative to take care of departmental needs (including helping other areas of the hospital) Work as a team player Answer questions and explain/demonstrate procedures and equipment for interns, veterinary and vet tech students. Ensure that all services and supplies are charged to clients according to established Hospital policy, procedure, and fee schedule. Assist clinicians and other staff members to assure efficient service and provide good customer service. Assist with teaching labs. To prepare and maintain daily oncology service and radiation therapy schedules. Stocking, ordering supplies, and cleaning as needed. Answer incoming telephone calls, schedule appointments. Receive clients and patients, patient sample collection. Perform daily chemotherapies for patients. Assist with radiation therapy patient care as needed. Daily communication with oncologists, radiologists, staff, and clients. Attend radiation therapy / oncology rounds Conduct equipment checks and maintenance as needed. Other duties as assigned by Specialties Supervisor, Director of Receiving Services or Director of Operations Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials Minimum Qualifications Graduate of Veterinary Technician or equivalent program, certified as MVMA/MAVT technician, plus 2 years experience and certification in specialty area or five years of veterinary medicine technical experience. Must possess customer service orientation and outstanding interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications/Selection Criteria: Problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of large and small animals. A willingness to be flexible to meet patient care needs. Credentialed technician with certification recognized in Minnesota. Proficiency with PC and software programs.
